Fantasies of General (R) Hamid Gul & Jamat-e-Islami.

ISLAMABAD: Politicians belonging to different parties, retired army generals and members of civil society Monday created a non-political forum - Centre for Discussions and Solutions (CDS) - with ex-Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed as its convener to promote national thinking on national issues and the problems being faced by the country. The first meeting of the forum was held at the residence of Qazi Hussain Ahmed. Those who attended the meeting included four retired generals including ex-army chief General (retd) Aslam Baig, three ex-DGs ISI Lt. General (retd) Hamid Gul, Lt. General (retd) Asad Durrani and General (retd) Ehsanul Haq who also served as chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PML-Q leader Mushahid Hussain Sayed, JI senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed, PML-N leader Raja Zafarul Haq, Roedad Khan, JI secretary general Liaquat Baloch and others. “We have invited those retired army officers who in the past played a role in the formulation of political policies, politicians and members of civil society to create national thinking among people,” Qazi Hussain Hussain later told a press conference. He said in the very first meeting, the participants were unanimous that the rule of law was the basic need and a pre-requisite to pull the country out of the present crisis. “In this connection the participants of the meeting observed that the Supreme Court should be respected and its verdicts be implemented in letter and spirit,” he said. Qazi Hussain Ahmed said the participants also appealed to all political parties and masses to extend support to the apex court and respect its decisions. The meeting also called for an end to foreign interference in the internal affairs of the country and sought basic changes in the foreign policy. To a question, he said the forum would work above political and sectarian considerations, and safeguarding national interests and a strong Pakistan would be its top priority. Qazi said PPP leader Mian Raza Rabbani was also invited to the meeting but he could not come due to illness of his sister. To a question about any political motives and politics of ‘Dharna’ by the newly created forum, Qazi Hussain Ahmed maintained that there was no political agenda of CDS. To another question, the ex-JI amir said they might also invite MQM to attend the CDS meeting. A letter from an MQM minion, Kunwar Khalid Yunus, was printed in this newspaper on August 15 in which he admitted “that Gen Beg’s one sidekick also reached Mr Altaf Hussain’s residence of Azizabad with one suitcase full of currency notes. Mr Hussain refused to accept it. After a few months, when Mr Hussain met Mr Beg [at] a function in Lahore, the former cynically asked if his expensive suitcase reached him safely. The latter sheepishly nodded.” Will Mr Yunus file an affidavit in court? Lastly, may I again appeal to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take up this pending matter and let us have a decision before the next round of ‘fair and free’ elections. If press reports of August 17 are to be believed, President General Pervez Musharraf has clearly stated that he would be re-elected “at any cost” – at the cost of whose life and whose money? LONDON, Jan 24: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has claimed that former army chief Gen Aslam Beg had also tried to bribe the MQM like other political parties of the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) during the general election, but he had turned down the offer because it was against the ideology and principles of his party. In a press statement issued here on Monday, the MQM chief said Gen Beg had sent an brigadier with a briefcase containing money to bribe the organization during the election but he had told the brigadier that the MQM would not accept it as it was against its principles and ideology. He said the brigadier had come in the presence of MQM's central executive committee members and they were witness to the event. Gen Beg had CONFESSED that the ISI had distributed Rs140 million among the component parties of the IJI, including the PML, ANP and JI for defeating the PPP in the general election when he was the army chief. The general's public confession had created an uproar and forced TI chief Asghar Khan to file a petition in the Supreme Court to investigate the ISI's role in manipulating those elections and its role in national politics. That petition is still pending before the apex court. The MQM chief said that later when he met army chief Gen Beg in Rawalpindi at the latter's residence, he told Mr Beg that the MQM had not accepted the money. Mr Hussain said he had deliberately informed the general about the MQM's refusal to accept the bribe just to ensure that this money was not misappropriated by the intermediary. He said Gen Beg had told him that he was in the knowledge that the MQM had not accepted the money. He said this was not the only occasion when the ISI had tried to bribe the MQM. It had made several attempts even earlier to purchase the MQM but had failed, he said. He said the only reason why he was forced to leave the country was that he had refused to compromise his resolve, philosophy and ideology. "Had I also compromised or traded my conscience like Nawaz Sharif and other politicians (who had accepted ISI funds), I would have owned large industries in Pakistan and would not have been forced to live in exile, nor any direct or indirect army operation would have been carried out against his party," he said. Mr Hussain criticized the army for its involvement in politics and claimed that the army generals were also corrupt like politicians. He questioned why every general was allotted a huge residential plot. The MQM chief said he would soon tell the nation about the misconduct and misdeeds of Gen Asif Nawaz (late), Gen Abdul Waheed Kakar, Gen Jehangir Karamat, former chief of ISI Gen Hameed Gul, former ISI chief Gen Asad Durrani and others, whose names and misdeeds had not came out in the open because they were not Mohajirs. "The judiciary, military, bureaucracy and politicians of the country have failed," he said. "We have fought three wars with India and despite losing every time we are spending a huge portion of the country's budget on defence," he said mentioning that defence budget still was treated as a sacred cow and not audited. He said one reason for denying the people their role in the government was the feudal mentality of the ruling oligarchy. The army is different to some extent as it comes from the common class but a stage comes when the senior ranks of the army join hands with these feudals or forced to do that. WikiLeaks exposed true faces of Pak leadership: JI
ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sunday staged a peaceful rally and sit-in on the Constitutional Avenue in protest against the price-hike, sentence of Dr. Afia, drone attacks, target killing in Karachi and Balochistan, RGST bill and recovery of missing persons. The speakers urged the government to check inflation, corruption, target killing in Karachi and Balochistan, stop drone attacks and recover missing persons. Addressing on the occasion, JI Chief Munawwar Hassan said that WikiLeaks exposed true faces of Pakistan’s military, political, democratic leadership, adding, however, that the people will reject all kinds of attempts of adventurism. He said the next sit- in would be staged in Peshawar. He said that they strongly condemn the act of terrorism and do not believe in un-democratic steps.

He said that if operation was lunched in North Wazirstan it would foment terrorism in the country and have serious consequences. Munawwar resolved to continue the protest until the government finds the missing persons. The former JI Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed said the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry should look into the cases of missing persons. JI leaders Fareed Paracha, Liaquat Baloch, Sirajul Haq, DrFouzia Siddiqui, Amina Masood Janjua and others also addressed the JI workers. JI's started sit-in demonstration at 10 am and it culminated in front parliament House at around 4 pm. Strict security measures were taken for safety of the protestors. WikiLeaks: A tool of psy warfare

Published: December 5, 2010
General Mirza Aslam Beg

The WikiLeaks revelations confirm the obvious, more than what it informs us about the darker corners of “US diplomacy, cloaked in securitocracy.” In fact, it is a cyber war, in the new game of psychological warfare (PSYWAR), targeting individuals and countries to cover up the shame of defeat of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and also the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon. A cyber war has been launched, impacting public opinion globally, and focusing on three objectives:

One, to cause defamation of the countries that had a role - direct or indirect - in the defeat of the US and its allies in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan, and thus to create mistrust amongst them, so that they are not able to challenge Washington’s future plans in the region.
Two, to create conditions for a civil war in Afghanistan, and through this reduce Pakistan and Iran to subservience - something they have not been able to achieve since the last 30 years.
Three, to establish Indian hegemony over South Asia, including Afghanistan, in order to protect USA’s strategic interests in the region.
The technique used in making these revelations is typical of psy operations approach, of mixing truth with lies in a manner that the truth gets submerged under the lies, as is in the case of the leaked documents. The report has not said a word about Israel, nor does it give any disadvantage to the US in the implementation of its policies in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and other Muslim countries, which have been particularly targeted. WikiLeaks betrays the role of a country with resources to break the secret code of the US diplomatic order, because it is not possible for an individual like Julian Assange - the fugitive - to accomplish such high profile task. The disclosures, no doubt, have created ripples around the world, but will subside as it is looked into with a deeper perspective, about its source, intent and purpose. The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, expressed concern over the WikiLeaks revelations and resolved to prevent such happenings in the future. But the question is, did she not know what the WikiLeaks were up to, and why could they not be stopped in time and the website blocked? It could be checked, but if the US government so wanted, however, did not because they are part of the game. Over the period, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have drawn closer to each other; Turkey is also looking east and a kind of strategic consensus is emerging. Then the multibillion dollar gas pipeline agreement has been signed with Iran, although Pakistan does not have enough funds for the project; in addition, China is also willing to support its time-tested friend in the project. http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/Opinions/Columns/05-Dec-2010/WikiLeaks-A-tool-of-psy-warfare

Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan on Wednesday night angrily hit out at the retired generals who this week said that they no longer had confidence in him, remarks that fueled western speculation that the president is losing the support of the army. “They are insignificant personalities,” the president told the Financial Times in an interview on his arrival at the Davos World Economic Forum. “Most of them are ones who served under me and I kicked them out ... ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, 1 June 2008 (The Post) – The [Pakistan] Ex- Servicemen Society, a group of retired Army generals and some former Army chiefs, has demanded an open trial of [Traitor] Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution and announced that they would join the long march if he (illegal president) did not resign before June 10, 2008. The Article 6 was added into the Constitution upon recommendation of one of the Members of Justice Hamood-ur-Rehman Commission, Justice Yaqoob Ali, according to which the abrogator of the Constitution must be tried for high treason and sentenced to death. ISLAMABAD: Former chief of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-Gen (retd) Hameed Gul on Saturday disclosed that the PPP could have got landslide victory in 1988 elections, if the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) had not been formed. Talking to a private TV channel, he said: ìYes, we had such reports and apprehension of massive PPP victory.î Gul said they feared that the PPP was returning to power after the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. I take the responsibility of forming the IJI, though it was not my idea,î Hameed Gul said. He said that even during Benazir Bhutto’s first visit to the ISI headquarters he told her about his role in forming the IJI. “We wanted the PPP opponents who had affiliation with the GHQ to unite them on one platform,” Gul said. He said ‘emergency’ was one of the options in 1988 after General Zia ul Haq’s plane crashed, but it was decided to go ahead with November 16 election despite request from opponents of the PPP to postpone it. He disclosed that even former Soviet Union sent a message to Pakistan that the 1988 elections could be sabotaged. Gul said: “This is for the first time I am disclosing that former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev sent his envoy with a message regarding apprehensions of sabotaging the 1988 election through foreign intervention.”

He said he was not aware of the conditions to hand over power to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, but said he was asked to brief her before she was handed over the power. “Benazir wanted a briefing from the Establishment so I was sent for this purpose and the meeting took place at her friend’s house in Karachi, which lasted over two hours, and I told her that the Afghan Jihad had not ended yet. There were two or three other things, which I briefed her and she said she understood the situation,” he said. He denied “Midnight Jackal” as intelligence plot and said it was Imtiaz’s personal plan. “No agency was involved but Imtiaz himself,” Gul said. The ex-ISI chief denied he ever sent a message to MQM chief Altaf Hussain to join IJI and rejected the allegation of former Intelligence Bureau director, Brig (retd) Imtiaz. “I never sent Imtiaz to Altaf with a message to join IJI but to express concern over allegations of collection of ìBhattaî by some elements,” he said. He predicted the victory of Afghans in Afghanistan and the US exit, but expressed concern over post-US Afghanistan situation and said a weak government was going to be set up there. “We failed to give up political system in Afghanistan after Soviet Union left and now I don’t see much will happen after the US exit, but Afghans will win,” he added. An independent judicial commission be set up to review all the steps taken by [Tyrant] Musharraf from Kargil War to other incidents. Action should be taken against him over all the wrong steps taken by him, he demanded. He said renowned nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan be released immediately and all the restrictions imposed on him be lifted. Responding to a question, he said new government should take up the matter of missing persons seriously and take concrete steps for their recovery. The mandate given by the people to new government on February 18 [2008] is not being acknowledged, he regretted. To another question, he claimed Ex-Servicemen Society is being backed by 250,000 ex-servicemen. “Our society will participate in the ongoing movement of legal fraternity for restoration of [all illegally] deposed judges,” he announced. ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, 1 June 2008 (The News) – Retired military generals, who have become active against [Traitor] Pervez Musharraf, have vowed to work for the restoration of an independent judiciary even if Musharraf quits power. In a strongly-worded message to the political forces on Saturday, they said Musharraf must be held accountable for his misdeeds. The retired Army officers, who met at the residence of Brig. (retd.) Mian Mohammad Mahmud, resolved that they would continue to play their role in the Society, which wanted the return of [unlawfully] deposed [Pakistan Supreme Court] Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The presence of Lt. Gen. (retd.) Ali Quli Khan, who was supposed to become the Army Chief instead of General Pervez Musharraf but fell victim to palace intrigues, in the meeting was specially noticed. [PML-N Chief Muhammad] Nawaz [Sharif] always regretted his decision for giving weight to the advice against Ali Kuli Khan.

The group, however, clarified that ex-servicemen are not part of any political group. “We are playing our role in the best national interest. Mehran Bank Scandal Case Pending for last 14 years in the Supreme Court of Pakistan - Asghar Khan - Part 4

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, 25 May 2008 (Khaleej Times) – The Society for Ex-Servicemen in its meeting attended by former services chifes, retired generals and other senior [military] officers yesterday called for formation of a judicial council to investigate [Devil] Pervez Musharraf’s conduct as Army Chief and [illegal] president since 1998. Lt. Gen. (retd) Asad Durrani, former ISI chief, talking to reporters after the meeting said the commission should probe events including Kargil war, military operations in Balochistan, Waziristan, Swat and Lal Masjid [Mosque], May 12 carnage in Karachi and the terrorist attacks on return of Benazir Bhutto and her assassination. Musharraf’s role in all these happenings should be investigated to determine culpability. Durrani said the meeting demanded that Musharraf must vacate the Army House in order to dispel the impression that the Army is backing his manipulations and intrigues against the new democratic order. In a related development, the PML-N also released a chargesheet for Musharraf’s impeachment. These include subversion of Constitution, Kargil War, military operation, purge of judiciary and involvement in terrorist acts in Karachi and Islamabad. Qazi Hussain Ahmed/Jamat-e-Islami's "Martial Law Party"!

Lets have a look at the Company Qazi Hussain Ahmed "enjoys", lets discuss Shah Mehmood Qureshi whose son was serving John Kerry (The Initiator of Kerry Lugar Bill)

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former foreign minister called on the country’s president and prime minister to resign on Saturday, following the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden, one of the highest-profile calls so far for senior officials to be held accountable. Some Pakistanis have focused their anger on the country’s powerful army and intelligence chiefs. But former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani are the ones who should be held responsible. “This is a great violation of our sovereignty, but this is for the president and prime minister to resign and no one else,” said Qureshi in press briefing. Qureshi is now a lawmaker for the ruling Pakistan People’s Party.

He has said he was pushed out of his position as foreign minister in February after he clashed with party officials over the case of Raymond Allen Davis, a CIA contractor who shot and killed two Pakistanis in the central city of Lahore, apparently in self-defense. Qureshi insisted Davis did not enjoy blanket diplomatic immunity, but he was ultimately released after the families of the victims were compensated. SUBJECT: POTENTIAL PAKISTANI PRIME MINISTER SHAH MEHMOOD
QURESHI

REF: A. ISLAMABAD 691 B. LAHORE 698

1. (C) Summary: This is one of several profiles on political leaders who will play a large role in Pakistan’s new government. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is in the process of coalition negotiations on forming a government but still faces a leadership struggle within its own ranks. With his separate power base in the party, Amin Faheem remains the front-runner for the job as Prime Minister, but PPP Co-Chair Asif Zardari sees Faheem as personally weak and politically positioned to rival Zardari. Shah Mehmood Qureshi is an experienced politician but remains controversial within the PPP in Punjab. Although polished and pro-western, Qureshi is a relative newcomer to the PPP, as he began his political career with Nawaz Sharif but fell out with him. PPP Co-Chair Asif Zardari, however, considers Qureshi a viable candidate for Prime Minister. End summary.

2. (C) Qureshi, the PPP’s Punjab President, is a smooth and sophisticated interlocutor, and he appears sincere in professing that his and PPP’s interests are congruent with those of the United States. He believes the PPP has more in common ideologically with Musharraf than with Nawaz. He is ambitious and has been self-promoting his candidacy for Prime Minister with foreign diplomats.

3. (C) Benazir Bhutto in early 2007 appointed Qureshi–a relatively junior member of the party’s leadership–president of the PPP in Punjab Province. Party insiders speculated that Qureshi’s appointment was intended to diminish the rising popularity and influence of Yousef Raza Gillani, the PPP Vice President and an alternate candidate for Prime Minister. Qureshi and Gillani are political and spiritual rivals from Multan; Qureshi’s elevation was a direct snub to Gillani and may have exacerbated splits within the provincial party. Qureshi was optimistic about his appointment as PPP Punjab President, and told post that he believed his appointment was well-received by local party leaders (REF B).

4. (C) However, some senior PPP Punjabi leaders, including Gillani, consider Qureshi an outsider and have refused to accept his leadership. Qureshi faced further isolation because he is unfamiliar with the PPP’s power structure in Punjab. As a hereditary spiritual leader, he demands separate seating arrangements at party functions, a trait that has antagonized grassroots supporters. Critics also accuse Qureshi of accepting money in exchange for granting party tickets for the February 18 parliamentary elections, although Qureshi supporters argue he is untainted by scandal or corruption.

5. (C) Zardari told NSA Tariq Aziz he was considering Qureshi as a candidate for Prime Minister. Aziz was unenthusiastic and told Zardari he thought Qureshi would not work well with other parties, was very ambitious, and might threaten Zardari’s authority. Qureshi views himself as capable and independent front-man who can advance the party’s objectives. “”If I am Prime Minister,”" Qureshi told us that “”I am not going to be Zardari’s ‘yes-man.’ I am loyal to the party and to Zardari, but I am my own man.”" Qureshi explained that if he was made Prime Minister he expected to be able to choose his own Ministers and would not passively accept directives from a behind-the-scenes Zardari.

Career and Personal History
————————–

6. (C) Qureshi originally joined Nawaz Sharif in 1985, and won seats in the Punjab Provincial Assembly in 1985, 1988, and 1990. He was Punjab’s Finance Minister (1990-1993) under Nawaz’s administration. Nawaz refused to give Qureshi a National Assembly ticket in 1993 because they differed over how to administer the province; Qureshi then left Nawaz to join the PPP. In exchange for switching sides, Qureshi won a National Assembly seat (1993) and became Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs. He lost his seat in 1997 after Nawaz swept the elections.

7. (C) Qureshi was District Nazim (mayor) of Multan

ISLAMABAD 00000872 002 OF 002

(2000-2002); party critics say he ran in the local (non-party) election without Benazir’s blessing but with Musharraf’s tacit support. Qureshi was a capable administrator and oversaw a number of development projects in the Multan district. He used his influence as a nazim to win reelection to the National Assembly on a PPP ticket (2002-2007). During this time he developed a reputation as a forceful orator and championed strengthening and reforming parliament. Qureshi’s critics, however, accuse him of failing to deliver substantial development to his Multan constituency. He retained his seat in the 2008 elections.

8. (C) Qureshi was born in Multan on June 22, 1956. He hails from a religious and politically active family and is the hereditary caretaker of two of the city’s main Sufi shrines, which provides him with substantial income. Qureshi also claims the Sufi spiritual titles of Makdhoom and Pir. His attempt to assert spiritual authority in Multan has been controversial within the city’s Sufi community, as many other Sufi leaders–including Gillani–reject his claims of spiritual authority. Their dispute probably is what led Qureshi initially to join Sharif’s party in 1985, as Gillani was already associated with the PPP. Qureshi is married with one son and two daughters. He holds a B.A. from University of the Punjab and a Masters degree from Cambridge University. Qureshi is fluent in Urdu, English, Punjabi, and Seraiki.

9. (C) Comment: We have multiple and repeated indications that Zardari does not want Faheem to be Prime Minister. Zardari considers Faheem to be weak and lazy, but the real problem we suspect is that Faheem has his own significant power base in Sindh and would not be willing to vacate the PM job if/when Zardari wants to take it over himself. Beyond Faheem, however, Zardari does not have many good choices within the party. Choosing a Punjabi like Qureshi or Gillani (see septel for his profile) could alienate the PPP’s Sindh base but could help the PPP expand its reach into the vote-rich Punjab heartland.

Both, either Republicans or Democrat are same as far as the Third World is concerned. My reply would be in two Parts:1 - Republicans [Grand Old Party - GOP]:US Government is in the hands of Zionists and i.e. 100% For example one must not overlook a fact that John Kerry [Democart voted in favour of US War on Iraq like John Kerry [Democrat]. Political Activist type of Mullahs e.g. Qazi Hussain Ahmed/Jamat-e-Islami often raise hue and cry against the so-called Imperialism of the US. I call it the connivance of MMA-Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Jamat-e-Islami to support General Musharraf Martial Law Regime [basically US Republican War Machine] from 2002-2007 particularly in reference with 17 th Constitutional Amendment i.e. LFO to offer Musharraf a complete free hand through this notorious and illegal constitutional amendment rather tampering.A key member of MMA [Alliance of Religious Parties of Pakistan which supported General Musharraf] Akram Khan Durrani [the then Chief Minister of NWFP - 2002 - 2007] visited the USA-PENTAGON-US DEFENCE DEPTT, for discussing what Propblem of Muslim Ummah? Let me tell you about Zionists lobby i.e. basically Neocons lest you foget history which is second nature of nowadays Ummah while completely forgetting the facts during Afghan War of Independence 1979-1989 the very same Zionist lobby i.e. Neo-Cons in US were the ones who helped Afghans through Pakistan. Many of the present Neo-Cons [also Zionists] were very young while serving Ronald Reagan's Jihad in Afghanistan e.g. Armitage, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld and countless others. Under this doctrine, known as the Kirkpatrick Doctrine, the Reagan administration initially tolerated leaders such as Augusto Pinochet in Chile and Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines and General Ziaul Haq in Pakistan. As the 1980's wore on, however, younger, second-generation neoconservatives, such as Elliot Abrams, pushed for a clear policy of supporting democracy against both left and right wing dictators. Thus, while U.S. support for Marcos continued until and even after the fraudulent Philippine election of February 7, 1986, there was debate within the administration regarding how and when to oppose Marcos. In the days that followed, with the widespread popular refusal to accept Marcos as the purported winner, turmoil in the Philippines grew. I am amazed at selective and compartmentalized approach of Islamists and Pakistanists of Pakistan which condmens Asif Ali Zardair but absolves General Zia and Jamat-e-Islami. Even during the of Musharraf, his allies in NWFP and Baluchistan [i.e. MMA Alliance of Religio Political Parties] visited the USA and even if that was not enough they were welcomed in Pentagon and US Defence Department.Under the very nose of US Republican Party and George Bush, the Radical Islamic Fundamentalist were allies [MMA an alliance of religio political party were partners in power with Musharraf in NWFP AND Baluchistan 2002-2007].

The amazing thing is that a key leader of this Radical Islamic Fundamentalist Group met with several highups of US Department of Defence and Pentagon and leading US Power Brokers and guess what MMA leader were given a detailed tour of Pentagon under this very George W Bush and his "War on Terror".As per news reports in 2005 [GEO TV and Daily Dawn reference is at the end] the then Chief Minister NWFP [Pakistan] Akram Khan Durrani's [member of Religious Parties Alliance]US Visit where he met senior policy advisor on South Asia Jonah Blank and Senator Sanatorium at Capital Hill. Top MMA Leader Tries to Convince Pentagon, NSC on Hardline Islamic Law
Special SAT Report

WASHINGTON, July 19: As the guest of a Christian organization which calls itself “a Think Tank with Legs”, the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s North-western Province, NWFP, Akram Khan Durrani, has used the legs of the think tank to reach the Pentagon and Washington’s thinking elite. And the Opposition religious coalition, Muttahida Majlis Amal (MMA), leader has been preaching the US decision-makers a word or two about the controversial Hasba Act, the recently passed law which, critics say, means Talibanization of Pakistan. It is being introduced by the Provincial Government to appeal to its conservative constituency in the backward province before the Local Government elections later this month.

It is the Law against which the Federal Government of General Pervez Musharraf has petitioned the Supreme Court of Pakistan claiming it was against the Constitution and should be declared null and void. The MMA says it will contest forcibly in the SC.

“Yes I visited the Pentagon and gave them a copy of the Hasba Act,” Durrani (above) told the South Asia Tribune on Saturday night, explaining that it was not at all odd that he was trying to convince Washington that the Act was not meant to Talibanize the Pakistani society.

Durrani has been in Washington from July 9-19 as guest of Institute for Global Engagement (IGE) which, according to its web site, was “created to develop sustainable environments for religious freedom worldwide, and to inspire and equip emerging leaders with faith-based methodologies of engagement.”

Founded by Robert A. Seiple, the first-ever US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, “IGE uniquely combines strategic analysis with an operational component that seeks solutions to complex political and religious problems in difficult parts of the world.”

“In this age of widespread religious conflict, pluralism, and change, finding such solutions requires a deep understanding of geopolitical realities as well as an approach that is "shrewd as snakes and innocent as doves," the web site of IGE says.

To meet this challenge, IGE partners with governments, religious organizations, scholars, practitioners, and international advocacy groups to take on innovative projects that strike at the root of religious intolerance and educate emerging leaders to take religion seriously in their consideration of international affairs.

“We're a "think tank with legs," or if you're feeling less poetic, a "think-and-do-tank." What does that mean? We recognize that thinking is simply our initial step. We're also committed to praying and acting on the basis of our thought and research,” the IGE web site explains.

Chief Minister Durrani has been in Washington with his three sons, one Principal Officer and an Interpreter, all hosted by IGE for 11 days in the US capital and New York. “I had a wonderful trip, my children also saw America and we had good meetings with National Security Council and Pentagon officials. I gave every one a copy of the Hasba Act,” Durrani told the South Asia Tribune.

The religious leader from the radically Islamized province has been trying in all his meetings to convince the Americans that his party was not as radical as perceived and they could do business with the Americans on the same terms as any one else.

But as a slip of his tongue in one of the TV interviews, Durrani claimed that after he explained the provisions of the Hasba Act to Pentagon officials, they almost approved it and gave a green light to go ahead. But he quickly stopped making the remark to other media channels and when he was specifically asked by South Asia Tribune whether he was able to convince the Pentagon, he was non-committal and said it was for Pentagon to give their opinion.

He was asked whether the Hasba Act, now in the Supreme Court of Pakistan after it was challenged by the Federal Government as violative of the Constitution, would still be pursued if the Court ruled against the MMA, and whether MMA would accept the Court decision, Durrani was a little uncomfortable answering the question saying “Let us think positively as our legal brains have studied the Act in detail and they can successfully argue that it does not come into conflict with the Constitution.”

Durrani was, however, almost sure after his round of meetings with think tanks and NSC/Pentagon officials in Washington that his Government in NWFP would not be dismissed by General Musharraf because of the Hasba Act.

“I did say that we will wreak havoc if Governor’s Rule was imposed, but I am sure that stage would never be reached as we have worked with the Center on many sensitive issues in the past and reached a mutually acceptable solution,” he said.

But Durrani could not convincingly respond to the question that by bringing up the Hasba issue at this stage, the Opposition MMA had actually played into the hands of the Musharraf Government and diverted the focus of national politics from the up-coming unity talks and a possible alliance between the MMA, PPP and PML-N on the more basic issue of getting rid of a military dictator.

“We are talking to the Opposition parties for a joint struggle at the Federal level but provinces can legislate and opposition to local laws does not mean we would stop talking to each other at all levels,” he said.

Yet the fact is that MMA has hijacked the national agenda by introducing and passing the Hasba Act in a hurry which prompted other major parties including PPP to sharply attack the MMA and condemn it. No one would have been happier than General Musharraf with this political move.

And MMA itself is almost in a win-win situation because if the Hasba Act is enforced, they will have a new Islamic Police at their command which can ultimately be used politically against the Center and other political opponents. On the other hand, if the Act is not allowed by the Supreme Court or if the NWFP Assembly is dismissed, MMA would emerge as “martyrs of Islam” and would be able to recruit more supporters for its hardline policies. On one hand these Mullahs particularly of Jamat-e-Islami talk against the West particularly the USA, Secularism, Democracy, Liberalism and on the other hand they had sought from the same quarter as NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, who visited USA, and met US Senator Mr Biden in Washington. Addressing members of Brooking Institution [According to Islamist Mullahs/Pakistanists every Think Tank is CIA backed and Zionist in nature], he said that a government of the people was in place in the NWFP. He said that common man had easy access to MMA government and minorities and women were being given special care. Since last many decades these numskulls Mullah declare anybody an agent of Zionists, USA, and CIA, if he/she belongs to MQM, PPP, PML-N and they since 9/11 declaring Musharraf and Co an agents of Zionists, I wonder what was in the mind of Pro Taliban Mullah Chief Minister NWFP when he was 'briefing' the brains and strategists in the US Defence department which as per a news article overwhelmingly Zionist.

The Israeli lobby has many "thinktanks" that provide future advisors to the various administrations, both Republican and Democrat. During the Clinton Administration, the Israeli lobby provided officials from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy like Martin Indyk. During the Bush Jr Administration, many of the officials the Israeli lobby provided are from their Republican "thinktanks, " like the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA).

1). Richard Perle----One of Bush's foreign policy advisors, he is the chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. A very likely Israeli government agent, Perle was expelled from Senator Henry Jackson's officein the 1970's after the National Security Agency (NSA) caught him passing Highly-Classified (National Security) documents to the Israeli Embassy. He later worked for the Israeli weapons firm, Soltam. Perle came from one the above mentioned pro-Israel thinktanks, the AEI. Perle is one of the leadingpro-Israeli fanatics leading this Iraq war mongering within the administration and now in the media.

2). Paul Wolfowitz--- -Deputy Defense Secretary, and member of Perle's Defense Policy Board, in the Pentagon. Wolfowitz is a close associate of Perle, and reportedly has close ties to the Israeli military. His sister lives in Israel. Wolfowitz came from the above mentioned Jewish thinktank, JINSA. Wolfowitz is the number two leader within the administration behindthis Iraq war mongering.

3). Douglas Feith----Under Secretary of Defense and Policy Advisor at the Pentagon. He is a close associate of Perle and served as his Special Counsel. Like Perle and the others, Feith is a pro-Israel extremist, who has advocated anti-Arab policies in the past. He is closely associated with the extremist group, the Zionist Organization of America, which evenattacks Jews that don't agree with its extremist views. Feith frequently speaks at ZOA conferences. Feith runs a small law firm, Feith and Zell, which only has one International office, in Israel. The majority of their legal work is representing Israeli interests. His firm's own website stated, prior to his appointment, that Feith "represents Israeli ArmamentsManufacturer. " Feith basically represents the Israeli War Machine. Feith also came from the Jewish thinktank JINSA. Feith, like Perle and Wolfowitz, are campaigning hard for this Israeli proxy war against Iraq.

4). Edward Luttwak----Member of the National Security Study Group of the Department of Defence at the Pentagon. Luttwak is reportedly an Israeli citizen and has taught in Israel. He frequently writes for Israeli and pro-Israeli newspapers and journals. Luttwak is an Israeli extremist whose main theme in many of his articles is the necessity of the U.S. waging waragainst Iraq.

5). Henry Kissinger--- --One of many Pentagon Advisors, Kissinger sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle. For detailed information about Kissinger's evil past, read Seymour Hersh's book (Price of Power: Kissinger in the Nixon White House). Kissinger likely had a part in the Watergate crimes, Southeast Asia mass murders (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos),Installing Chilean mass murdering dictator Pinochet, Operation Condor's mass killings in South America, and more recently served as Serbia's Ex-Dictator Slobodan Milosevic's Advisor. He consistently advocates goingto war against Iraq. Kissinger is the Ariel Sharon of the U.S. Unfortunately, President Bush nominated Kissinger as chairman of the September 11 investigating commission. It's like picking a bankrobber to investigate a fraud scandal.

6). Dov Zakheim----Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Department of Defense. He is an ordained rabbi and reportedly holds Israeli citizenship. Zakheim attended attended Jew's College in London and became an ordained Orthodox Jewish Rabbi in 1973. He was adjunct professor at New York's Jewish Yeshiva University.Zakheim is close to the Israeli lobby.

7). Kenneth Adelman----- One of many Pentagon Advisors, Adelman also sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle, and is another extremist pro-Israel advisor, who supports going to war against Iraq.Adelman frequently is a guest on Fox News, and often expresses extremist and often ridiculus anti-Arab and anti-Muslim views. Through his hatred or stupidity, he actually called Arabs "anti-Semitic" on Fox News (11/28/2001) , when he could have looked it up in the dictionary to find out that Arabs by definition are Semites.

8). Lewis Libby -----Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff. The chief pro-Israel Jewish advisor to Cheney, it helps explains why Cheney is so gun-ho to invade Iraq. Libby is longtime associate of Wolfowitz. Libby was also a lawyer for convicted felon and Israeli spy Mark Rich, whom Clinton pardoned, in his last days as president.

9). Robert Satloff----U. S. National Security Council Advisor, Satloff was the executive director of the Israeli lobby's "think tank," Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Many of the Israeli lobby's "experts" come from this front group, like Martin Indyk.

10). Elliott Abrams-----National Security Council Advisor. He previously worked at Washington-based "Think Tank" Ethics and Public Policy Center. During the Reagan Adminstration, Abrams was the Assistant Secretary of State, handling, for the most part, Latin American affairs. He played an important role in the Iran-Contra Scandal, which involved illegally sellingU.S. weapons to Iran to fight Iraq, and illegally funding the contra rebels fighting to overthrow Nicaragua's Sandinista government. He also actively deceived three congressional committees about his involvement and thereby faced felony charges based on his testimony. Abrams pled guilty in 1991 to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service. A year later, former President Bush (Senior) granted Abrams a full pardon. He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Reagan Administration' s State Department.

11). Marc Grossman---- -Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. He was Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources at the Department of State. Grossman is one of many of the pro-Israel Jewish officials from the Clinton Administration that Bush has promoted to higher posts.

12). Richard Haass-----Director of Policy Planning at the State Department and Ambassador at large. He is also Director of National Security Programs and Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the first Bush (Sr) Administration who sat on the National Security Council, and who consistently advocates goingto war against Iraq. Haass is also a member of the Defense Department's National Security Study Group, at the Pentagon.

13). Robert Zoellick---- -U.S. Trade Representative, a cabinet-level position. He is also one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Bush (Jr) Administration who advocated invading Iraq and occupying a portion of the country in order to set up setting up a Vichy-style puppet government.
