Shahrukh Khan and Kaafirs (Infidels) in Pakistan.

The professional Muslim Ulema of Pakistan have influenced our thinking so much that we see everything in religious terms. We keep a keen record of “atrocities against Muslims” but we ignore the enemy within who hides behind Islam. Earlier, we used to see two centres of evil: India and Israel but with time they have increased to include America and Europe. Iran is rapidly moving away because of our growing sectarianism and it is hard to name any real friend – Saudi Arabia and China are our ‘friends’ only in the sense that they are not enemies. They have excellent relations with our enemies and do not support us in our disputes with India and America, or in our red-hot anger against Israel. We strongly believe that in our 65 years of national life, we have been attacked five times by India, once by Russia, that we are “spiritually” fighting America for the last 12 years, that we fought our East Wing and lost it because of Indian aggression which the world supported because of the bias established by Indian propaganda. We believe that we were always on the right side, that we were persecuted. It was always hard for us to ask: are we really so innocent and so persecuted? Why does the world hate us? All these 65 years we have been teaching our students that one billion Hindus hate us because they are bigoted and jealous of our merit. It has been considered unpatriotic to ask why we failed to befriend them in 700 years. War is a tragedy but we refuse to see that a society at war with itself is an abomination. We love to talk of “we”, but we are “we” only in hate against “others”; when it comes to sacrifice or service, everyone is an individual. LAHORE, Jan 26: Jamatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed on Saturday offered his support to bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan and invited him to come to Pakistan to avoid the wrath of extremist Hindus targeting him in India. “We will welcome Shahrukh if he decides to come to Pakistan. We will support and save him from those victimising him on the basis of his religion,” Saeed said while presiding over a meeting held here to review arrangements for holding rallies under the JuD banner to mark the Yaumi-Kashmir (Kashmir Day) scheduled to be observed on Feb 5. The offer was floated by Hafiz Saeed after Mr Khan wrote an article titled “Being a Khan” in a magazine. “Many politicians asked me to leave India and go back to my native country Pakistan after 9/11. I sometimes become victim of the inadvertent object of the Indian political leaders who choose to make me a symbol of all that they think is wrong and unpatriotic about Muslims in India,” SRK writes. The JuD chief criticised India for claiming itself as having the world’s largest democracy. “Shahrukh’s statement exposes the Indian leaders’ narrow-mindedness they have about the Muslims living there. The country where Shahrukh like actors are not safe from the Hindus’ wrath and prejudice, how other Muslims could be safe there,” he deplored. He said the Muslims in India were being forced to migrate to other countries. He said since he was very clear on his stance, he would support Shahrukh on his stay in Pakistan if he was facing trouble in India. Renowned Pakistani TV artist Bushra Ansari takes Pakistani society to task on Shahrukh Khan issue in her letter to daily Jang dated 30 January 2013 - she says can we deny that for the sake of Art India accommodated Pakistani artists like Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, Nusrat Fatheh Ali Khan, Rahat Fatheh, Adnan Sami etc. etc. Should we as a Pakistani froget that Late. Mehdi Hasan and Ghulam Ali are worshipped in India and what we have here that when Sonu Nigam visited Pakistan we tried to sabotage his visit. Yet we have the audacity to raise hell on Shahrukh Khan whereas Shias, Hazaras, Sunnis are not safe in Pakistan what to talk of Hindus and Christians.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has said he is "extremely safe and happy" in India, rebutting claims that he needs extra security. A Pakistani minister suggested Delhi provide security after Khan wrote an account of how it felt to be a Muslim in India. Khan said the article had been given an "unwarranted twist" and he could not understand the controversy. Khan is one of Bollywood's biggest stars with fans all over the world. The actor wrote in Outlook Turning Points - published by India's Outlook magazine in association with the New York Times - that sometimes he became the "inadvertent object of political leaders who choose to make me a symbol of all that they think is wrong and unpatriotic about Muslims in India". He wrote that he has been "accused of bearing allegiance to our neighbouring nation than my own country - this even though I am an Indian whose father fought for the freedom of India". Following the article, Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik requested that India provide security for the actor. India on Tuesday dismissed Mr Malik's suggestion and advised him to look after the security of Pakistani citizens. 'Irksome' Reacting to Mr Malik's remarks, Khan told reporters: "I would like to tell all those who are offering unsolicited advice that we in India are extremely safe and happy. "We have an amazing democratic, free and secular way of life. In the environment that we live here in my country India, we have no safety issues regarding life and material. As a matter-of-fact, it is irksome for me to clarify this non-existent issue." Khan said many people were reacting to his article without reading it. "Ironically, the article... was actually meant to reiterate that on some occasions my being an Indian Muslim film star is misused by bigots and narrow minded people who have misplaced religious ideologies for small gains... and ironically the same has happened through this article... once again," he said. Khan has appeared in more than 70 films, anchored TV shows and done innumerable advertisements. He also owns the Kolkata Knight Riders team of the lucrative Indian Premier League cricket tournament. Khan has family roots in the Pakistani city of Peshawar and has a huge fan following there too. Senior Journalist with Jang Group and GEO TV, Hamid Mir was also of the opinion that whether those Pakistanis who are now inviting Shahrukh Khan to Pakistan, have for once ever thought of those Indian Muslims who are living in India above all Hamid Mir also raises a very burning question about the way Hindus, Christians and Sikh are treated in Pakistan, he also asked as to why Non-Muslim are leaving Pakistan and if even that wasn't enough one should look around the way Pakistani Shias and Sunni are slaughtering each other in Pakistan.

UNHCR Report on Minorities in Pakistan 2012 http://www.scribd.com/doc/122953646/UNHCR-Report-on-Minorities-in-Pakistan-2012

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that it was a criminal negligence to bring changes in the documents like Objectives Resolution as former president General (retd) Zia ul Haq tampered with the Constitution in 1985 however, the sitting parliament had done a good job by undoing this tampering. At one point Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed that the word ‘freely’ was omitted from the Objectives Resolution in 1985 by a dictator, which was an act of criminal negligence, but the then parliament surprisingly didn’t take notice of it. He said the Constitution is a sacred document and no person can tamper with it. The chief justice said credit must go to the present parliament, which after 25 years took notice of the brazen act of removing the word relating to the minorities’ rights, and restored the word ‘freely’ in the Objectives Resolution, which had always been part of the Constitution. The chief justice further said that the court is protecting the fundamental rights of the minorities and the government after the Gojra incident has provided full protection to the minorities. “We are bound to protect their rights as a nation but there are some individual who create trouble.” - DAILY TIMES - ISLAMABAD: Heading a 17-member larger bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry termed as criminal negligence the deletion of a word about the rights of minorities from the Objectives Resolution during the regime of General Ziaul Haq in 1985. Ziaul Haq had omitted the word “freely” from the Objectives Resolution, which was made substantive part of the 1973 Constitution under the Revival of Constitutional Order No. 14. The clause of Objectives Resolution before deletion of the word ‘freely’ read, “Wherein adequate provision shall be made for the minorities to ‘freely’ profess and practice their religions and develop their culture.” DAILY DAWN - ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Tuesday praised the parliament for undoing a wrong done by the legislature in 1985 (through a constitutional amendment) when it removed the word ‘freely’ from a clause of the Objectives Resolution that upheld the minorities’ right to practise their religion. The word “freely” was deleted from the Objectives Resolution when parliament passed the 8th Amendment after indemnifying all orders introduced through the President’s Order No 14 of 1985 and actions, including the July 1977 military takeover by Gen Zia-ul-Haq and extending discretion of dissolving the National Assembly, by invoking Article 58(2)b of the Constitution. After the passage of the 18th Amendment, the Objectives Resolution now reads: “Wherein adequate provision shall be made for the minorities freely to profess and practise their religions and develop their culture.” The CJ said: “Credit goes to the sitting parliament that they reinserted the word back to the Objectives Resolution.” He said that nobody realised the blunder right from 1985 till the 18th Amendment was passed, even though the Objectives Resolution was a preamble to the Constitution even at the time when RCO (Revival of Constitution Order) was promulgated. General Pervez Musharraf, Line of Control and Patriotism.

We Pakistanis are strange nation who perpetually suffer from memory loss and if that is not enough we praise General Pervez Musharraf, General Jamshed Gulzar Kiani, Chief Justice Ifitkhar Muhammad Chaudhry and last but not the least Dr A Q Khan in the same breath while compeltely forgetting that all these are quite an oxymoron to each other - Lets Refresh some memory - Kargil happened (May 1999) within three months of former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Lahore yatra, followed by the signing of the Lahore Declaration (February 1999) promising to put the bitterness of Partition behind and establish good neighbourly relations. Hijacking occurred (December 1999) as a kind of notice served on India by the newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Pervez Musharraf. Another notice was served through a daring attack on the Indian Parliament (December 2001) to impress upon the Indians that despite Afghanistan, Rawalpindi was still India-centric. It was General (retd) Musharraf who had shown this insane jihad brigade in Pakistan how to play the spoiler whenever they saw the normalisation process entering a decisive phase. ISLAMABAD: Refusing to discuss Kargil out of historical perspective, former president Pervez Musharraf on Friday snubbed an Indian TV anchor, telling him 1971 war and Siachen needed to be discussed first. He rejected allegations that the Indian soldier was beheaded by Pak army with help from militants. A visibly aggressive Musharraf blamed India for deteriorating relations, saying that there has been no effort from India to maintain civilized relations. When grilled further about alleged Pakistan army’s nexus with militants, Musharraf said: “We are not mad people. Stop painting us as rogues when you yourself are not prepared to admit all the cruelty that you inflict on us. Let alone LoC, what is the logic behind kicking our singers out and sending back our hockey players?” The former President of Pakistan went on to add that India has always had an inclination to be hysterical about everything. “The politicians, media everyone in India have a tendency to be hysterical about everything,” he added. ---- 2013 The News - ISLAMABAD: Refusing to discuss Kargil out of historical perspective, former president Pervez Musharraf on Friday snubbed an Indian TV anchor, telling him 1971 war and Siachen needed to be discussed first. September 26, 2006: WASHINGTON: President Pervez Musharraf launched his memoirs here on Monday revealing that before Kargil, India was about to attack Pakistan, Dr AQ Khan may have leaked Pakistan’s nuclear secrets to India - More disclosures include the two secret letters written by ailing nuclear scientist Dr A.Q. Khan, one to the Iranians and the other to his daughter in London asking her to reveal all Pakistani nuclear secrets through British journalists. To Iranians Dr Khan asked them not to reveal his name to the International Atomic Energy Agency and after this issue died down he would provide them with more technology. But the most astounding statement about nuclear proliferation comes when Musharraf reveals that Dr AQ Khan’s Dubai base may have provided Pakistan’s centrifugal designs to the Indians. “There is little doubt that AQ Khan was the central figure in proliferation network but he was assisted over the years by a number of money seeking freelancers from other countries, mainly in Europe. These people, according to AQ Khan included nationals of Switzerland, Holland, Britain and Sri Lanka,” he writes. “Ironically the network based in Dubai also employed several Indians some of whom have since vanished. There is a strong probability that the Indian Uranium enrichment programme may also have its roots in the Dubai-based network and could be a copy of the Pakistani centrifuge design,” he says. About Dr AQ Khan’s letters he said: “The letter to Iran was being carried by a business partner of AQ Khan in which Khan advised some of his friends in Iran not to mention his name under any circumstances to the IAEA. He also advised them to name dead people during investigations, just as he was naming dead people. He also promised Iran more help after this event passed. General Pervez Musharraf wanted Civil War in Sindh (BBC 2008)

General Pervez Musharraf wanted Civil War in... by SalimJanMazari

2008 AS the army chief and the country`s self-styled chief executive, General Pervez Musharraf may have lacked legitimacy, but he rarely lacked charm and aplomb when appearing before the media. Over the years, particularly as the military ruler, he was seen as handling the toughest of questions with great panache, and on many occasions, with a smile. It was perhaps because of this that here and more so abroad the media often seemed to forget that he was a military ruler. But of late his personality seems to have undergone a transformation. He has taken to snapping at journalists at news conferences and is irritable and ready to explode at the slightest perceived provocation. But, as if this were not enough, the way he asked a gathering of his supporters to teach a lesson (do, teen tika do) to this newspaper`s London correspondent because he had asked him a tough question was a bit too much. The president, it appears, has journeyed from the sublime to the ridiculous. One runs into a dead-end in explaining how one question can trigger such anger, and can only speculate about the reasons. The first and foremost appears to be the widening gulf between how the president assesses his performance in office and how others see it, particularly in terms of his handling of militancy in the country. Although his advisers may tell him he may have weathered the storm over the judiciary, he may be unsure what the next parliament`s view on the issue will be. A greater issue could be how pressure is increasing on him to hold free and fair elections, even from allies who have stood solidly behind him through thick and thin over the past several years. For one who described his uniform as his second skin, retiring as the all-powerful army chief may have left him feeling vulnerable. But, regardless of the cause, one would advise the president to keep his cool, his composure. For such outbursts do not inspire confidence in his ability to steer the country out of the troubled waters it finds itself in today. January 26th, 2008 Whatever you might think of President Pervez Musharraf, you have to admit he's a good performer. Whenever I have seen him deliver a speech or stage a press conference, I have been struck by his self confidence and easy, jocular manner. But very occasionally, the mask slips. I have just come from the Royal United Services Institute on Whitehall, where Musharraf was speaking earlier this afternoon. For almost the entire occasion, he was his usual charming self. Then a Pakistani journalist, Mohammed Ziauddin, asked a perfectly reasonable question about how a prominent suspected terrorist, Rashid Rauf, had somehow escaped the custody of Musharraf's security forces. As soon as Ziauddin, the Islamabad editor of Dawn, a Pakistani daily, rose to ask his question, Musharraf visibly bristled. Instantly, his demeanour changed from being relaxed and confident to tense and hostile. Musharraf promptly accused Ziauddin of "casting aspersions" and "undermining our forces and your own country". In a brief but furious tirade, he questioned Ziauddin's patriotism and professionalism. This disgraceful response to an entirely reasonable query spoke volumes about Musharraf. He will question the patriotism of any Pakistani critic betraying his essential intolerance of dissent. I wonder whether Musharraf would have responded with such rage had a British journalist asked precisely the same question? I suspect he would have answered firmly but politely. Musharraf treats his fellow Pakistanis with contempt while oozing charm for the benefit of foreigners. General Pervez Musharraf on Press Freedom (BBC... by SalimJanMazari

2008: ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 Journalists of Rawalpindi and Islamabad took out a procession on Monday to protest President Pervez Musharraf`s remarks against a senior journalist at a function in London. The protesting journalists also held a march on the main road linking the Aabpara Chowk with Melody Market and raised slogans against the president for threatening senior journalist Mohammad Ziauddin. They urged the president to apologise to the journalist community. The call for the protest rally was given by the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ). Addressing the participants, RIUJ office-bearers and representatives of media organisations termed the president`s remarks an `insult` to the entire journalist community. They said that family members of Mr Ziauddin faced a serious threat after the remarks made by President Musharraf, adding that the government would be responsible for any harm caused to Mr Ziauddin or a member of his family. They also asked the British government to take necessary legal action under the British law because President Musharraf had threatened the journalist on its soil. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) in a statement also demanded an apology from the president. “It is most unfortunate that a head of state has incited people to violence, and that too in a foreign country, against journalists,” the statement said. It said the PFUJ had been advocating tolerance in the society while the president was preaching intolerance and asking people to resort to violence. “Pakistani journalists do not need a certificate of patriotism from dictators or authoritarian rulers who have no respect for the constitution, judiciary and media,” it said. The Punjab Union of Journalists issued a statement on Monday criticising the remarks made by the president against Mr Ziauddin. Is Dr Tahirul Qadri "Sadiq" and "Amin" (Pious/Sagacious)

Dr Tahirul Qadri of Tehreeke Minhajul Quran (TMQ) who in his first public meeting had demanded that the election candidates must be “Sadique” (truthful) and “Ameen” (trustworthy) in line the said articles. Wednesday, January 09, 2013 - The business leaders in this financial capital of the country is determined to press the government for ensuring the strict implementation of Articles 62 and 63 for candidature in the next general election which is due in a mater of weeks. Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution deal with the qualification and disqualification for membership of the “Majlis-e-Shoora” (parliament). The businessmen, traders and industrialists, who gathered here Saturday evening to have an insight on current political situation of the country from Zahid Malik, a seasoned journalist and Editor in Chief Pakistan Observer, vowed not to tolerate those contestants in the polls who would fall short of constitutional provisions under Articles 62 and 63. Saying so automatically put them behind the long march-fame Dr Tahirul Qadri of Tehreeke Minhajul Quran (TMQ) who in his first public meeting had demanded that the election candidates must be “Sadique” (truthful) and “Ameen” (trustworthy) in line the said articles. Hosted by Federal Advisor on Textile Mirza Ikhtiar Baig at his residence, the gathering was attended among others by FPCCI President Fazal Kadir Khan Sherani, business leaders Tariq Sayeed, S.M Muneer, Zakaria Usman, Shaukat Ahmed, Mirza Ishtiaq Baig, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan and Former Sindh Governor Brig (Retd) Moinuddin Haider. Also present on the occasion was Editor Pakistan Observer Faisal Zahid Malik. The business leaders claimed to have sensed gravity of, what Ikhtiar Baig said “do or die” situation, as Malik urged upon the current rulers to think if crises-hit Pakistan could go with the current “extreme situation”. “There is a pressing need for the leaders to think whether or not we as a nation can sustain the current extreme situation where tolerance of the poor has completed faded,” said the journalist who, quoting local “intelligentsia”, termed Dr Qadri as a “agent of change” in Pakistan a “moderate Islamic movement”. Malik, however, said despite emergent odds like Dr Qadri’s long march the prospect for democracy was bright in the country. “By and large the democratic forces are in favor of continuing with democracy in the country that means the perceived anti-election designs of Dr Qadri are not going to succeed,” said the editor. A great wisdom, he said, was oozing out of the Presidency which had so far been able to avoid the path of politico-institutional confrontation through the policy of reconciliation. 2009: MQM benefited the most from NRO ISLAMABAD, Nov 18 The government did not present in the National Assembly a list of beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) despite a promise made by the prime minister to that effect. The list has names of about 5,800 people who were facing financial irregularities and criminal cases. The list obtained by Dawn shows that 3,775 cases (mostly criminal) were against leaders and workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Leaders of the Pakistan People`s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-N, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) and Awami National Party are also among the beneficiaries. Prominent leaders and bureaucrats who enjoyed immunity under the NRO include President Asif Ali Zardari, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Nusrat Bhutto, former minister Yousuf Talpur, PPP secretary general Jehangir Badr, Pakistan`s Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani, secretary general to the president Salman Farooqi, former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills Usman Farooqi, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad, former interior minister Aftab Sherpao, former minister Anwar Saifullah, former MNA of N-League Haji Kabir, Agha Siraj Durrani, former provincial minister Ghaniur Rehman, Habibullah Kundi, Sardar Mansoor Leghari, Mir Baz Khetran, Aslam Hayyat Qureshi, Saeed Mehdi, Javed Qureshi, Siraj Shamsuddin and former secretary to the president Rasool Baksh Raho. Officials of the law ministry and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) were not sure whether cases against Mian Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and PML-N leader Ishaq Dar, including the Hudaibya Paper Mills case, had been settled under the NRO or were still pending in courts. The NRO introduced by former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf provided immunity to leaders and officials from cases registered during 1985-99. The fate of the NRO is hanging in the balance and there is a possibility that corruption cases dumped under the ordinance might be reopened. Sources in the government said that pressure exerted by coalition partners had forced the government not to present the list of the beneficiaries in the National Assembly. They said there was pressure from the MQM and the JUI-F because hundreds of their workers allegedly involved in corruption and criminal cases had availed themselves of immunity under the NRO. The PPP decided to take the NRO to parliament, but reversed the decision when the coalition partners refused to vote for it. However, a government spokesman said the list would be presented in 15 days as promised by the prime minister. “The law minister was to present the list of NRO beneficiaries in the last NA session but he could not do so because the record was not consolidated,” the spokesman said. The next session of the National Assembly is likely to be held after Eidul Azha. Meanwhile, NAB has started consultations with its legal experts to decide the stance it would take after the deadline for parliamentary approval of the NRO ends on Nov 28. According to the sources, the bureau is considering suggestions to vigorously pursue corruption cases if they are reopened by courts. Supreme Court of Pakistan on the definition of Sadiq and Ameen (Pious and Sagacious) and Dr Tahirul Qadri's Long March for a change with NRO Beneficiaries

2012: NRO beneficiaries not entitled to hold govt office: CJ Iftikhar 27 January, 2012 ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday declared that the beneficiaries of the defunct National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) could not hold government offices. The Supreme Court admitted a petition for regular hearing against Sharmila Farooqui's eligibility as an adviser to the Sindh chief minister as well as member of the provincial cabinet. The chief justice ordered the removal of objections placed by the Registrar's office on the application and directed it for regular hearing. Petitioner Habib Wahabul Khairi, Chairman Al-Jehad Trust, appeared in person, and said Sharmila had taken relief under the National Reconciliation Ordinance. The Chief Justice observed that if she had taken relief under the plea bargain, then her case was a continuation of the NRO issue. He remarked that her eligibility as an adviser in the provincial cabinet should be reviewed as those who got relief under the NRO were no longer entitled for such benefits now. Khairi had made the federation, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of Sindh, NAB chairman, National Savings Director General, Usman Farooqui, Aneesa Farooqui, Sharmila Farooqui and State Bank as respondents. The TMQ chief held a marathon press conference in Model Town on Friday where he tried to dispel ‘certain apprehensions’ about his movement. On one occasion he broke down while giving details about funding for the movement. He said his wife and daughters had already sold their gold ornaments and were now planning to sell their house to fund the TMQ long march. “I am determined not to contest the upcoming election. However, if the participants in my march and the nation as well press me to become the caretaker premier, (which I really don’t want) I will be ready to accept this challenge by doing unprecedented electoral reforms amid massive accountability for the first time in the history of the country,” he said. He said he and the TMQ had a one-point agenda — the formation of an honest and trustworthy caretaker government after involving all stakeholders. And this should introduce electoral reforms in order to bring a leadership for the country that could represent all segments of society, including journalists, farmers, workers, lawyers and traders. The TMQ chief said as the armed forces and the judiciary were important part of the country’s democratic and electoral system, there was no harm in taking them on board. “We call military in flood-hit areas, for collection of bills and for several civic issues. Why are we afraid of consulting them on such an important issue. Similarly, we can involve judiciary in this process by seeking legal and constitutional guidance in this regard,” he said. Dr Qadri stressed that the long march would be peaceful as the TMQ would not allow anyone to take over the country on the pretext of their march and law and order. Commenting on rampant corruption in the country, he said it was a major problem and a cause of weakening of state institutions. He quoted a former prime minister of New Zealand, David Lange, as having told him in late 80s about huge kickbacks by a Pakistani premier. He said Bob Hawke (a former Australian PM) had informed him about the demand of 30 per cent share by a top Pakistani authority when Australia planned making foreign investment in Pakistan. He expressed his confidence in the present judiciary and military leadership, saying both were playing a vital role in saving the democratic system. He said the TMQ had also established its own electoral institution led by former election commission secretary Kunwar Dilshad. At the end of discussion, a woman claiming herself as an expatriate from Italy gave a donation of Rs600,000 to the TMQ chief for funding the long march. 2009: 3576 criminal cases against Altaf, others withdrawn KARACHI At least 83 corruption cases registered against 200 persons including Interior Minster Rehman Malik, Salman Farooqi, Sindh Minister Agha Siraj Durani, and other former bureaucrats and politicians have been withdrawn under the cover of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in Sindh. Moreover, a large number of the 3576 criminal cases registered against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Dr Farooq Sattar, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, and others were also withdrawn, invoking the NRO. A list of the cases and the names of accused persons who benefited from the NRO provision in Sindh, has been sent to the federal government which has already announced to unveil the list of the persons whose cases have been withdrawn. Similarly, the name of Interior Minister Rehman Malik forms part of the list of the persons whose corruption cases have been withdrawn. A corruption case was pending in Accountability Court Karachi against Mr Malik in his capacity as former Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Others who benefited from NRO are: former President National Bank of Pakistan MB Abbasi, currently serving as Pak Ambassador in Iran, former bureaucrat Salman Farooqi, currently serving Principal Staff officer of President of Pakistan, Siraj Shamsul Hassan, a businessman Chaudhry Sharif, former bank president Younas Dalmia, former Vice-President of Habib Bank, Pir Didar Jan Sarhandi, former Secretary Board of Revenue of Sindh government, Ghulam Abbas Soomor and former official of Board of Revenue of Sindh Ramesh Odesi. Shame - Cry, The Beloved Country Reflections on the Gujarat massacre by a serving IAS officer. - 'Obedience Pushes You To Fascism' The IAS officer who put in his papers in protest after seeing the unprecedented state and administrative complicity in the Gujarat carnage. Interviews Harsh Mander Magazine | Apr 15, 2002 - Upendra Baxi has reviewed the recently published book titled “Fear and Forgiveness: The Aftermath of Massacre” by Harsh Mander in April 3, 2010 issue of Economic and Political Weekly (EPW). He describes the publication of this book itself as a “solemn event in terms of our commitment to and solidarity with the Gujarat 2002 violated and the survivors’ quest for human rights and justice.” The book highlights the tension created by the competitive plebiscitary democracy and its adverse impact on the position of the human rights and human rights violation of the vulnerable communities. Harsh Mander has tried to resurrect the memory of the Mahatma by a unique moral invention of Nyayagraha. “This invention owes much to the understanding of the four pillars of any future-oriented quest for authentic process of reconciliation. These are: acknowledgment; remorse; reparation; and justice. Nyayagraha constitutes a remarkable call for the pursuit of ‘legal justice’ conceived not so much as ‘retribution’ but rather as an important articulation of equal citizenship rights” Baxi notes that the book contains references to a series of independent reports on Gujarat riots in 2002 that “gathered systematic evidence of the enormity of brutality, long advance preparations for the carnage, the deliberate subversion of relief, rehabilitation, and the legal process, and the comprehensive denial of the [human] rights of the persons internally displaced by violence”. He further notices that Mander instead of indulging Gujarat bashing also brings messages of hope and reconstruction by by highlighting the fact that how, many families risked their life to provide shelter to the hapless Muslims under attack. February 2012 Host Narendra Modi floors Pakistani scholar: VADODARA: Pakistani Islamic scholar Tahir-ul-Qadri on his first visit to Gujarat thanked chief minister Narendra Modi for the security arrangements provided to him. Qadri, known for his strong views against terrorism and extremism, however, refused to comment on 2002 communal riots. Qadri has been in Gujarat since Friday night to lay foundation stone of India headquarters of Minhaj-ul-Quran International in Karjan on Saturday evening. Speaking to reporters ahead of the function in Karjan, he said he did not have knowledge of India's provincial states and its political leaders. "But it is my first visit to Gujarat and special Z-plus security arrangements have been made by the state. I thank the CM for this," he said. On repeated questions about the 2002 communal riots, Qadri insisted he did not come to Gujarat to speak about specific incidents, but termed them as unfortunate. "My talk in letter and spirit is just for peace and harmony. Violence at any place, killing of mankind should be condemned, but I de-link it with the events ( Godhra riots) you are referring to," he said. He also drew parallels between Quran and Bhagwad Gita. Qadri struck a local chord immediately. "Tamam Gujarati mate dua karu chu. Khushal raho, hali mali ne raho. (I am praying for all Gujaratis. Live in prosperity and live in harmony)," he said. Qadri said nobody can rectify whatever has happened in the past. "Nobody can regenerate or recreate past, but efforts should be made to prevent such events in future. The only way is to look for a better future, create an atmosphere of togetherness for which mutual tolerance is necessary," he said, stressing that his efforts are for inter-faith, inter-cultural harmony at global level. Pakistani Islamic scholar Tahir-ul-Qadri’s reported remarks advising Muslims to forget the Gujarat riots have sparked a row with some Muslim organisations opposing his ongoing visit to Hyderabad. Police have stepped up security for Qadri, who arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday on a five-day trip. The controversial Pakistani scholar, while addressing a meeting at Vadodara in Gujarat on February 25, reportedly advised Indian Muslims to forget the post-Godhra carnage and move on. He also thanked Chief Minister Narendra Modi for providing him security. Qadri, who faces threat to his life in Pakistan, mostly lives in the West. He is on a visit to India till March 18 and will address religious meetings in Ajmer, Mumbai, Raipur and Bangalore. A section of Urdu newspapers here published statements by Moulana Naseeruddin and leaders of Jamiat-ul-Ulema condemning Qadri’s remarks. Large scale security arrangements were made Wednesday night at Quli Qutub Shah Stadium where thousands of Muslims turned out to hear Qadri. He has a considerable following among adherents of the Sufi and Barelvi schools of thought. Leaders of Jamiat-ul-Ulema have accused Qadri of speaking the language of the West. “By praising the killer of Muslims and calling Muslims terrorists, he is expressing the views of either America and Israel or the RSS and Bajrang Dal,” said Moin Ahmed, a leader of the organisation. Moulana Naseeruddin alleged that Qadri was adding insult to the injury of Muslims by asking them to forget the massacre. Qadri has not reacted to the allegations so far and the attempts to contact him for his reaction yielded no results. Dr Tahirul Qadri's Interaction with the Dead Bodies

Dr Tahirul Qadri Pious & Sagacious as Defined... by SalimJanMazari

The Danish report below shows the two faces of Pakistani Imam Tahir Ul-Qadri, one for at home (in Urdu), and the other for when he goes out visiting among the kuffar (in English). Needless to say, the two faces say completely different things. Watch the imam’s calm, benevolent English-language face utter all the soothing bromides that his Western listeners long to hear. Why, he’s just like Imam Rauf! But the Urdu-speaking firebrand — that’s another matter entirely. Many thanks to Michael Laudahn for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling: REFERENCES: The Two Faces of Tahir Ul-Qadri Sunday, September 09, 2012 http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-two-faces-of-tahir-ul-qadri.html

January 29th, 2011. MQM lawmaker declines to lead Fateha for Taseer ISLAMABAD: Polarisation on religious issues again became visible at the highest level when lawmakers in Senate stood divided over the issue of offering fateha for a deceased person. When Senator Abdul Khaliq Pirzada of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was asked to lead the prayers for the soul of the assassinated governor of Punjab, Salmaan Taseer, he flatly refused. A parliamentarian later termed the incident an “abhorrent aberration” in the country’s parliamentary history. The prayers were requested by Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar of the PML-Q, who requested chairman Senate Farooq H Naek that the house should offer prayers for the late governor’s departed soul. She also urged the upper house of parliament to pass a resolution to condemn elements supporting Taseer’s killer. Offering prayers for persons of national repute is a routine matter. After the MQM lawmaker refused to lead the prayers, the Senate chairman himself led the prayers to avoid further controversy. Published in The Express Tribune, January 29th, 2011. All major Islamist political parties such as Jamaat-i-Islami and Jamiat-e-Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) refused to offer Fatiha prayers for Salman Taseer during the Senate session. PML-Q Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar said that the Senate should in fact pass a resolution condemning the actions of Senators who are against blasphemy. Her party member Wasim Sajjad, however, differed on the issue and said that prayers should be offered. Senate Chairman Farooq Naik urged Senate members to offer Fatiha for Taseer, which was vociferously protested by Senator Khaliq Pirzada of MQM, Professor Ibrahim of Jamaat-i-Islami, Mawlana Gull Naseeb and Ghulam Ali of JUI (F), who boycotted the session. Despite the protests, the leaders from the Pakistan People's Party, PML-N and PML-Q stood up and offered players for the slain leader. Prof Ibrahim opposed the motion, followed by a few from other parties. JUI-F lawmakers walked out of the house which Chairman Naek interpreted as rejection of the motion and decided against it by saying: “It is opposed.” He then asked MQM`s Abdul Khaliq Pirzada to lead fateha for Mr Taseer. Strangely enough, no regular and collective fateha was offered by lawmakers and it remained an individual affair. Some raised their hands while others ignored. 2002: Dr Tahirul Qadri was one of those who supported the sham referendum of a US Backed Military Dictator General Pervez Musharraf: The government has its own line-up. The supporters include the PML (Quaid-e-Azam), a breakaway faction of the PML(N), Imran Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaaf, former president Farooq Leghari's Millat Party, Tahirul Qadri's Pakistan Awami Tehreek, the breakaway faction of the PPP in the NWFP, headed by jailed former chief minister, Aftab Khan Sherpao and former federal minister, Omar Asghar Khan's National Democratic Party. Besides these, the Awami National Party and the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) have extended their silent support to the general by not taking a decision on the issue and leaving it to their workers. Another stratum of political support for the general comes from mayors and councillors in the local government put in place by the regime through its devolution plan. Even those mayors and councillors who are members of the opposition parties like the PPP, the PML(N) and the JI, find it hard, given the local government structures, to oppose the general or try to sabotage his plans from within. Talking to The News, the head of the ISI’s political cell in 2002, admitted manipulating the last elections at the behest of President Musharraf and termed the defeat of the King’s party, the PML-Q, this time “a reaction of the unnatural dispensation (installed in 2002).” Zamir said the ISI together with the NAB was instrumental in pressing the lawmakers to join the pro-Musharraf camp to form the government to support his stay in power. Looking down back into the memory lane and recalling his blunders which, he admitted, had pushed the country back instead of taking it forward, Zamir feels ashamed of his role and conduct. Massively embarrassed because he was the one who negotiated, coerced and did all the dirty work, the retired Maj-Gen said he was not in a position to become a preacher now when his own past was tainted. He said the country would not have faced such regression had the political management was not carried out by the ISI in 2002. But he also put some responsibility of the political disaster on the PML-Q as well. The former No: 2 of the ISI called for the closure of political cell in the agency, confessing that it was part of the problem due to its involvement in forging unnatural alliances, contrary to public wishes. Zamir’s blaming Musharraf for creating this unnatural alliance rings true as another former top associate of Musharraf, Lt-Gen (retd) Jamshed Gulzar Kiyani has already disclosed that majority of the corps commanders, in several meetings, had opposed Musharraf’s decision of patronising the leadership of the King’s party. “We had urged Musharraf many times during the corps commanders meeting that the PML-Q leadership was the most condemned and castigated personalities. They are the worst politicians who remained involved in co-operative scandals and writing off loans. But Musharraf never heard our advice,” Kiyani said while recalling discussions in their high profile meetings. He said one of their colleagues, who was an accountability chief at that time, had sought permission many times for proceeding against the King’s party top leaders but was always denied. Kiyani asked Musharraf to quit, the sooner the better, as otherwise the country would be in a serious trouble. Ma-Gen (retd) Ehtesham Zamir termed the 2008 elections ‘fairer than 2002’. He said the reason behind their fairness is that there was relatively less interference of intelligence agencies this time as compared to the last time. But he stopped short of saying that there was zero interference in the 2008 polls. “You are quite right,” he said when asked to confirm about heavy penetration of ISI into political affairs during the 2002 elections. But he said he did not do it on his own but on the directives issued by the government. Asked who directed him from the government side and if there was somebody else, not President Musharraf, he said: “Obviously on the directives of President Musharraf.” Asked if he then never felt that he was committing a crime by manipulating political business at the cost of public wishes, he said: “Who should I have told except myself. Could I have asked Musharraf about this? I was a serving officer and I did what I was told to do. I never felt this need during the service to question anyone senior to me,” he said and added that he could not defend his acts now. “It was for this reason that I have never tried to preach others what I did not practice. But I am of the view that the ISI’s political cell should be closed for good by revoking executive orders issued in 1975,” he said. Responding to a question regarding corruption cases that were used as pressure tactics on lawmakers, he said: “Yes! This tool was used, not only by the ISI. The NAB was also involved in this exercise.” Former corps commander of Rawalpindi, Lt-Gen (retd) Jamshed Gulzar Kiyani said majority of corps commanders had continued opposing Musharraf’s alliance with top leadership of the PML-Q. “Not just in one meeting, we opposed his alignment with these corrupt politicians in many meetings but who cared. Now Musharraf has been disgraced everywhere, thanks to his political cronies.” REFERENCE: The man, who rigged 2002 polls, spills the beans Umar Cheema Sunday, February 24, 2008 http://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx?ID=13159&Cat=13&dt=2/27/2008 Ansar Abbasi on MQM and Dr Tahirul Qadri Thursday, January 03, 2013, Safar 20, 1434 A.H. http://jang.com.pk/jang/jan2013-daily/03-01-2013/col14.htm

2006: Party to re-elect Musharraf: Pervaiz : LAHORE, March 23: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi says the PML will re-elect Gen Musharraf president-in-uniform to ensure the continuity of his policies which saved the country from default and being tagged as a terrorist state. Addressing a workers convention here on Thursday, he said the PML wanted the country to continue to progress under the leadership of Gen Musharraf. He said no matter whether somebody liked the idea or not, the PML would choose President Musharraf for another term. The chief minister’s speech set the tone, and most of the speakers who addressed after him, including the prime minister, praised the leadership qualities of the president and said he was the leader of the PML. Pervaiz Elahi said it was because of the policies and strategies of the president and the prime minister that the country was able to spend billions of rupees on education and health. He said President Musharraf was more tolerant in his attitude compared to the so-called democratic leaders of the past. Without naming anyone but leaving no doubt that he was referring to the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the chief minister said he had dismissed the opposition parties’ governments of Balochistan and the NWFP within six months of their installation. In comparison, he said, Gen Musharraf had been tolerating the MMA government for the past three years despite a difference of opinion. He said a strong PML had always been in the interest of the country. He recalled that when the PML got weaker a leader, an obvious reference to Mr Bhutto, got an opportunity to disintegrate the country. The nation would never forgive such a leadership, he said. He recalled the role of the Muslim League in the creation of Pakistan. He was all praise for the Sindh Assembly which was the first legislature to adopt a resolution in favour of Pakistan. Similarly, he said, Balochistan also decided to go with Pakistan. The NWFP took a decision for accession to Pakistan through a referendum. He said the PML was working well in the provinces at present. He believed that the country would make progress under the leadership of President Musharraf. A resolution moved by him lauded the services of those who had laid their lives for Pakistan. 2008: TMQ activists besiege Aaj TV offices in Islamabad Saturday, November 08, 2008 LAHORE: Activists of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) besieged Aaj TV offices in Islamabad on Friday against the alleged use of ‘indecent words’ against their chief Dr Tahirul Qadri in one of its programmes. According to the TV channel, over 150 TMQ activists besieged the TV offices to protest the use of ‘improper language’ against Qadri by Mushtaq Minhas and Nusrat Javed - hosts of the show Bolta Pakistan. They carried placards rebuking the show and shouted slogans against the hosts. They also demanded an apology from the TV channel’s administration. The channel said they continued to receive threats and indecent mobile phone text messages throughout the day. Aaj TV Executive Director Talat Hussain said the TMQ should have talked to the channel’s administration if any of its programmes had hurt its feelings instead of surrounding the building. Host Nusrat Javed said that he would not succumb to the ‘hooliganism’ of TMQ activists and knew how to deal with such ‘dramas’. daily times monitor . 2004: Musharraf's uniform a secondary issue: Altaf By Bureau Report 08 September 2004  , Sept 7: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that whether President Gen Pervez Musharraf remains in uniform or decides to doff it is a secondary issue because every government in Pakistan has sought protection of the military uniform. Speaking at the Peshawar Press Club's 'Meet the Press' programme here on Tuesday, he said the issue of uniform would be there as long as a people's government was not established in the country. Every ruler in the past had sought the help of the 'uniform' and compromised on principles, he added. He said that former prime ministers, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, had formed their governments with the help of the 'uniform'. The Jamaat-i-Islami supported Gen Ziaul Haq, who also was in uniform, for 11 long years, but now JI chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed was opposing a president in uniform to hoodwink the nation. Mr Hussain demanded that the NWFP be renamed because the present name did not reflect the identity, culture and psyche of its people who had been demanding the change of name since the inception of Pakistan. He was of the opinion that if the NWFP was not renamed as Pukhtoonkhwa or Pukhtoonistan or whatever its people wanted, they (the people of the province) might resort to other means to have a name of their choice. The MQM chief said the federation of Pakistan must give equal rights to all its federating units. Use of brute force, he added, would not keep the country intact. Paying rich tribute to late Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, he said that Bacha Khan was a genuine leader who had given a sense of freedom and independence to his people and launched a protracted but non-violent struggle against foreign rule. He said the name NWFP was a remnant of the colonial era and, therefore, must be changed. If the rulers were reluctant to rename the NWFP, they should change the names of other provinces, he added. Referring to 9/11, he said this single event had brought about profound changes in geo-politics. "Friends have become foes and foes have turned friends." In Pakistan, the rulers abandoned the Taliban and the Jihadi groups and joined hands with the United States and its other allies to protect Pakistan's interests in this part of the world. He said his party had joined the government in order to eradicate the decade-old backwardness and poverty and to steer the country out of a crisis which was posing a threat to its existence. The MQM was the only political party, Mr Hussain said, which represented the middle-class of Pakistan and it had survived many operations since its formation in 1984. He denied that the MQM had any plan for carving out a Jinnahpur out of Pakistan or that it was a separatist organization which wanted to dismember the country. He said that the forefathers of the people in the MQM had sacrificed their lives for Pakistan. "Our people are residents of the province of Sindh and this is now their only identity," he added. 2007: * Railways minister says govt has enough votes to elect Musharraf * Sher Afgan says Musharraf may doff uniform to seal deal with BB Staff Report LAHORE: President General Pervez Musharraf will seek re-election from the current parliament in uniform, Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Monday. “The government has enough votes to re-elect President Musharraf from the existing assemblies,” Ahmed told a press conference at Pakistan Railways Headquarters here. He added that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would support the president’s re-election. He said the government does not want any major party to quit from the parliament during the presidential elections, but added that if the opposition does opt to resign, “one of the major political parties will not do so”. Asked about the PPP’s reservations regarding the president’s uniform, he said “All matters are settled, and the uniform is no big problem. However, the president has a programme to doff it and will himself take the decision in this regard according to the Constitution.” About the recent meeting between Gen Musharraf and PPP Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto, the minister said that it was the start of a final round of negotiations between the government and PPP. “It was not the first meeting between Benazir Bhutto and President Musharraf. The semi-final of the negotiations was also played at the same place as the final round of negotiations,” he added. Ahmed said August would be a month of key political decisions, while Pakistab;s emerging political scenario would be decided in the period between August 15 and September 15. The presidential elections would be held between September 10 and October 10, before the general elections. He said politician were trying to seek the help of the Supreme Court, so a free judiciary and strong media had an “important role” in the current situation. Agencies add: Gen Musharraf may hang up his army uniform to pave the way for a pact with Bhutto, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sher Afgan Niazi said on Monday. Musharraf and Bhutto held secret talks in Abu Dhabi on Friday on a pre-election power-sharing deal, but reached no agreement on two key issues, Niazi told AFP. The sticking points were the issue of Musharraf’s dual role as president and head of the army and a bar that prevents Bhutto having a third term as premier, he said. “The two met in Abu Dhabi on Friday to hammer out a political understanding so that moderate forces can join hands to defeat extremists in the coming general elections,” Niazi said. Niazi said he believed that Musharraf “would be willing to shed his uniform if he has the PPP and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League behind him”. He said that if the two agreed on a deal, the constitution could be amended to allow prime ministers to serve a third term. “An alliance between Bhutto and Musharraf is a necessity in the prevailing situation, it is also the desire of the international community, particularly the United States and Britain,” Niazi said. Speaking to a private television channel, Niazi said that the Constitution did not need to be amended to allow the president’s re-election in uniform, APP reported. The minister said that 17th amendment to the Constitution removed all restrictions on the president, including on his military uniform, until November 15, 2007. Since the presidential election is to be held between September 15 and October 16, Gen Musharraf can contest it in his uniform, he said. But if the election is delayed beyond November, the situation will be different, he added.
