Ansar Abbasi has quoted Quran on Adultery Law and favoured Saudi Arabia as well. He should also have quoted as to how those who [Ultra Islamists of 1979 Siege of Kabba'ah and their heads were choped and French Troops freed the Kaaba'ah and Vinell Coorp of USA was behing Saudi National Guard - same contractor of Iraq] raise voice against the Rulers of Saudi Arabia, are dealt with. Ansar Abbasi is worried about the crimes below the belt but how about quoting something from Quran and Hadith on Suicide Attacks on Mosques and Imam Bargahs [Please dont say that these are done by Israel], we all know how Mullahs [no matter Wahabi, Salafi, Deobandi, Barelvi or Shia] bite erach other like dogs even worse than dogs.

Ansar Abbasi has also quoted that West has always objected on Islamic Punishments in Iran but I wonder did Mr Ansar Abbasi know that this is the Islam of Iran....

Mullahs often raise Hue and Cry over blasphemy but one wonders who would tale these Mullahs to the court of law.

Usool al- Kafi that is a collection narrations and traditions attributed to the Shiite Imams, Ahlul Bayt and the Prophet. Al-Kafi is the MOST reliable Shia Book, as the reliable Shia Scholars said and declared . Its author is Thiqat al-Islam Muhamad Ibn Yaqoob AlKulayni (A VERY reliable Shia Scholar, died in 328 H). Some Shi'ites scholars believe usool Al-Kafi was presented to the legendary Imam Qaem who liked it and said: "It suffices our Shi'ites" (al-Tharee'ah ela Tasaneef al-Shi'a: Agha Buzurg al-Tahraani; vol.17, p.245)

AND KAAFI SAYS ABOUT ALLAH:

Allah has the Quality of 'Badaa'. (Usul Kafi- Babul bad'aa - Al- Kafi Vol- 1 -P283 India Ed.)

'Badaa' means Allah forgets. (Ibid)

Allah makes mistakes. (Ibid)

Allah plans but this does not take effect. (Ibid)

He does not know who to appoint as the next message conveyor, the next Imaam. (Ibid)

QURAN AS PER SHIA SCHOLARS.

Nuri Tibiris, one of the most renowned Shi'ite scholars and mujtahids, wrote a book against the present Quran. The book is entitled: 'Faslul Khitab Fi Tahreefi-Kitabi Rabbil Arbaab' (The Final Verdict on the Distortion of the Book of the Lord of Lords).

The Shiites assert that the existing Quran must have been altered, since there is no reference to any of their strayed beliefs in it. One of the first to explicitly state this view was Mirza Hussein Muhammad Taqiy al-Noori al-Tabrasi (d. 1320 AH) in his book The Final Verdict on the Distortion of the Book of the Lord of Lords. Original Quran will not come into view till the manifestation of Imam Mehdi (SHIAs 12th Imam) (Na’uzubillah). [Anwaar-ul-Na' umania, Vol 2, Pg 360 - Published Iran]

Collectors of Quran eliminated virtues of Prophet’s progeny from Surah Al-Ahzab which was about to the length of Surah Al-Bakrah.[Haq- ul-Yaqeen, Pg 66 - Published Iran]

The Munafiqeen (i.e. Sahaba) took very much out of Quran (took out the verses). (Ihtijaj-e-tibri, page #382).

When Imaam Mehdi comes he will bring with him the real and original Quran. (Ahsan-ul-maqaal, page #336, safdar Husain najfi).

The person who says that the present Quran is complete is a liar because the “complete Quran” was compiled by Hazrat Ali. (Fasl-ul-khitaab fee tahreef kitaab rab-ul- arbab, page #4, Noori Tibri).

"Abu Baseer reported that he said to Imam Ja'far, "O Abu Abdullah (Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq) What is Mus-haf Fatimah?" He replied "It is a Qur'an containing three times what is found in your copy of the Qur'an; yet by Allah, it does not contain even a single letter from your Qur'an. (Al-Kafi vol.1 p.457)

Khomeini mentions this scholar with great respect in his own book 'A1Hukumatul Islamiyah" (The Islamic State). In fact, Khomeini has actually used Nuri Tibiris's work entitled "Mustadrakul Wasail" to complete his theory of Wilayatul Faqih.

[Wilayatul Faqih is the Islamic jurist's right to overrule a ruling that contradicts Islamic law.]

Khomeini writes about Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Omar (R.A.):



"Those people who, in their envy to rule, attached themselves to the Deen of the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and formed their own cliques could not possibly refrain from their actions on the bases of Quranic advice. They had to materialise their aims at any cost." (Kashful Asraar: 114)

He also writes:



'Those who had no affiliation with the Quran and Islam except through their desire for the world and power. They had made the Qurun a vehicle to promote their agenda. (Ibid)

In his book Kashful Asraar, Khomeni has dedicated a whole chapter to Hazrat Abu Bakr's opposition to the Quran and another chapter to the Omar's opposition. (Ibid: 114 & 117)

He has then continued to write a chapter on how to answer the critiques of the Ahlus Sunnah W'al Jama'ah with the heading: "An eye on the answers of the foolish." (Ibid: 120)



Khomeni writes about Hazrat Uthman (R.A.):



"We worship and recognise only that God Whose actions are based on concrete rationalism and Who does not rule against that rationalism. We do not worship a god who creates a building for Divine worship and justice and then strives to destroy that very building himself by giving authority to rascals like Yazid, Mu'awiyah and Uthman". (Ibid: 107)

Mullah Muhammed bin Yaqoob Kulaini, the most prominent Shi'ite scholar of Hadith, quotes Imam Baqir as saying:



'People became apostates after the death of the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam), except for three people: Miqdad ibn Aswad, Abu Dharr Ghifari and Salmaan Farsi.' He continues:



'Abu Bakr and Omar did not repent before they parted the world. In fact, they did not even mention what they had done to Ali. So may Allah, His angels and all of mankind curse them. (Furu'ul Kafi: Kitabul Rauda: 115)

Mullah Baqir writes:



'Regarding the doctrine of' 'Tabarri' we believe that we should seek disassociation from four idols namely, Abu Bakr, Omar, Uthman and Mu'awiyah; from four women namely, Ayesha, Hafsa, Hind and Ummul Hakam, along with all their associates and followers. 'These are the worst creation of Allah. It is not possible to believe in Allah, His Messenger and the Imams without disassociating oneself from their enemies. (Haqqul Yaqeen: 2:519)

[The doctrine of 'Tabarri' means to have no association with the enemies of Allah.]

Mullah Baqir writes:

'One should say after each prayer: O Allah! Curse Abu Bakr, Omar, Uthman, Mu'awiyah, Ayesha, Hafsa, Hind and Ummul Hakam. (Aynul Hayat: 599)

The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam), came to a person from the Ansaar and asked him if he had any food. The Ansaari said he had and slaughtered a goat. The man then grilled some meat and presented it to the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) who wished that Ali, Fathima, Hasan and Hussain were present with him. Then Abu Bakr and Omar arrived. Ali also arrived shortly after. Allah then revealed the verse:



'We have never sent any messenger prophet or Muhaddath before except that when ever they desired something, the devil interfered in their desire.' (The Prophet then said) This is just as the devil has sent his two agents here right now (Abu Bakr and Omar). (The footnotes of Maqbool's translation: Surah Hajj: 674)

[Muhaddath is a non-prophet but he is inspired by Allah]

Mullah Baqir Majlisi writes:



'Pharaoh and Hamaan refer here to Abu Bakr and Omar. (Haqqul Yaqeen: 342)

The same author also says:



'The references in big books about the illegitimate birth of Omar cannot be discussed in this book. (Ibid: 259)

Allah says in Surah Nahl (90):



"And He prevents you from immorality, unlawfulness and rebellion.'

Ali ibn Ibrahim AI-Qummi comments on this verse:

'These three vices refer to so and so, so and so and so and so.' (Al Qummi's commentary: 218)



Any ambiguity is cleared by the following comment: 'Immorality refers to the first person (Abu Bakr); unlawfulness refers to the second (Omar) and rebellion refers to the third (Uthman). (Footnotes to Maqbool's translation: 522)

Mullah Baqir narrates a story from Imam Zainul Abideen that a man came to the Imam and asked him to inform him about Abu Bakr and Omar. The Imam informed him that they were both non-believers. (Haqqul Yaqeen: 551)



All The Sahaba Kiraam Radiyallahu Anhum Are Kaafirs and Apostates (Na'udhu billah).

The shi'ite scholor of Hadith, Ni' matullah Jazaa-i-rii writes in the 'Anwaare nomaaniyyah' page 245, vol.2.: "The shia Imaamiyyah are of the opinion that the khilafah of Hazrat Ali (Radiyallahhu Anhu) is by nassi jalli (clear text) and all the sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum), are kafirs, and continue to slander them. They (shias) believe in the imaamah of Jafar Sadiq, (Rehmatullah Alayhi), and his sinless offspring. The author of this book belongs to this group and only this sect is successful and saved (from jahannum). Abii Jafar (Imaam Baqir) says that after Rasulullah, (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam), all the sahaba became murtid (turn apostate) apart from these: Miqdad Bin Aswad, abu Zar Ghafari and Salaman Farsi (Radiyallahu Anhum). They refused to make Bayah (pay allegiance) to (Sayyidinaa) Abu Bakr, (Radiyallahu Anhu), until they called Amirul Momineen. He made Bayah. Then the three of them also made bayah. Hence all agreed upon the khilaafah of (Sayyidina) Abu Bakr. [Usol-e-kafi, vol.2.; Raudah kaafi, page246; Rijal Kashi, page 504.]

IN QUOTATIONS :

1.) They say all Sahabah (R.A) companions except 3 left Islaam after demise of Nabi (S.A.W).

2.) They say Abu Bakr(R.A) Umar(R.A) and Uthmaan (R.A) robbed Ali(R.A) of his position of being Khalif.

3.) They say Umar(R.A) was a 'Original Kaafir' and 'Zindiq'-renegrade.

4.) "Abu Huraira (R.A) was one of the fuquaha, but god knows what judement he falsified for Muaw'iyya and others like him, and what damage He inflicted upon Islaam."

5.) They say Abu Huraira (R.A) used to fabricate Ahadith.

6.) They say Muawiyya (R.A) poisoined Hassan(R.A).

7.) They say Muawiya (R.A) was a tyrant opressive ruler.

8.) They say Qazi Shurray (R.A) used to issue judicial pronouncement in favour of the ruling party. He was a sinful wretch occupying position of Judge.

9.) One should dissociate with the 4 idols: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan, Muawiyya and 4 women Ayesha, Hafsa, Harid, Umm- al- Hakam.

10.)One should curse the above after each prayer.

11.) Pharoah and Hamaan refer here to Abu Bakr and Umar.

MORE ABOUT SHIA'ISM AND SAHAABAH :

The most authentic book of theology of Shi'ism is Al-Jamiul Kafi. In this book in the section, Kitabur Raudha', the following narration is attributed to the fifth Shi', Imam:

"After Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) all people became murtads (reneged from Islam) except three persons - Miqdad Bin Aswad, Abu Tharr Ghifari and Salman Farsi Radiallahu Anhum wabarakatuhum). "

In the Shi'i book, Kitabur Raudhah, the following narration is attributed to Imam Baqir who allegedly made the statement in reply to his disciple who had sought the Imam's opinion regarding Hadhrat Abu Bakr and Hadhrat Umar (Radiallahu Anhuma)

"What are you asking me about them (Abu Bakr and Umar)? Whoever among us (i.e. the Ahle Bait or the progeny of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) departed from this world, departed in a state of extreme displeasure with them. The elders among us admonished the younger ones to perpetuate it (i.e. this displeasure with Abu Bakr and Umar), Verily, the two of them have unjustly usurped our right. By Allah! These two were the first to settle on our necks (i.e. the necks of the Ahle Bait). Therefore, may the la'nat (curse) of Allah, the Malaikah and of mankind be on the two of them.

(Kitabur Raudhah, Page 115)

In the same book, on the same page appears the following:

"Verily. these two elders (Abu Bakr and Umar) departed from this world without having made taubah for what they had perpetrated against Ameerul Mumineen Alayhis Salaam. In fact, they did not even think of us (of their wrongs against Hadhrat Ali). Therefore, the la'nat of Allah, the Malaikah and of mankind be on them."

In the Shiah book, Rijal Kashi, Hadhrat Abu Bakr and Hadhrat Umar (Radiallahu Anhuma) are denigrated in the following narration attributed to Imam Baqir:

"Whatever murder is committed in Islam, whatever unlawful wealth is earned and whatever adultery is committed until the appearance of our Imam Mahdi - the sin of all this is on the necks of the two (i.e. Abu Bakr and Umar). (Rijal Kashi, page 135)

In Kitabur Raudhah on pages 159/160, the Shiahs attribute a narration to Hadhrat Salman Farsi (Radiallahu Anhu) in which it is claimed that on the occasion when the oath of allegiance was given to Hadhrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Anhu), the first person to swear allegiance to him was an old man who stepped forward crying:

"All praise to Allah who has not caused me to die yet, enabling me to see you on this pedestal. Stretch your hand. " Thus he (Abu Bakr) stretched his hand and the old man took the oath of allegiance (at his hand)."

According to the narration, when Hadhrat Ali (Radiallahu Anhu) heard this from Hadhrat Salman (Radiallahu Anhu), he asked:

"Do you know who he (the old man who took the oath of allegiance) is?"

When Salman (Radiallahu Anhu) replied in the negative, Hadhrat Ali (Radiallahu Anhu) allegedly said:

"That was Iblees, Allah has cursed him."

Thus, according to Shi'ism, the first being who accepted the Khilafat of Hadhrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Anhu) was Iblees who placed his hand in the hand of Hadhrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Anhu).

At the end of this narration in Kitabur Raudhah, the following words are attributed by the Shi'i priests to Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

"Then, they (a group of the Saqeefah Bani Saidah) will come to the Musjid (i.e. Musjid-e-Nabawi) and the first to swear allegiance to him (i.e. Abu Bakr) on my Mimbar will be Iblees, the La'nat of Allah on him. Iblees will appear (on that occasion) in the form of an old man and say so (i.e. what Salman Faarsi has allegedly said)."

Mullah Baqir Majlisi is a renowned personality in Shiah circles. He is regarded as a top-ranking Muhaddith. He flourished in the 10th century of the Hijri era. The Shi'i clergy has accorded him the title, Khatamul Muhadditheen (the seal of the Muhadditheen). His works are regarded as highly authoritative by the Shiah priests. Khomeini has praised and recommended his writings. This Shi'i priest, in his books, writes the following statements whenever he mentions the name of Hadhrat Umar (Radiallahu Anhu)

"Umar Bin Khattab - on him be la'nat (curse) and athab (punishment).

Dear Jamil Sahab,

You are quoting Ansar Abbasi's article but may I ask, did Ansar Abbasi check before filing the attached article that Video was distributed by the sister of Mr Athar Minallah. Why disn't Ansar Abbasi file a news report on Ms. Samar Minallah? Why this double standard, read the news on Ansar Abbasi from the same newspaper where he works [The News International/Jang] and read it is same crowd who circulated the video of Flogging with whom Ansar Abbasi was very chummy. Protestors are very those people who were with Ansar Abbasi in his time of distress. Ansar Abbasi never flinched to file reports on honour killing but now he is asking twenty questions giving the references of Quran and Hadith. Stop using Religion for petty politics.

Journalists protest threats to Ansar Abbasi Wednesday, January 07, 2009 Our correspondent Islamabad

The protests against the vilification campaign and death threats to the Editor Investigations The News continued in the New Year as well, as the journalist community also backed their profession fellow by protesting in front of the Press Club.

Dozens of common people also gathered in front of Geo building to show solidarity with Ansar Abbasi.

A sit-in led by President Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalist (RIUJ) Afzal Butt was staged to condemn death threats to a senior journalist because of his daring reports against the government allies and top judicial officer-bearer of the country. The RIUJ president said the threats to Ansar Abbasi were in fact threats given to the whole journalist community. “We all stand by Ansar Abbasi and urge the government to take serious notice of the threats,” Butt said.

Earlier, the Executive Committee of RIUJ also unanimously passed a resolution condemning the death threats to Ansar Abbasi.

Meanwhile, the civil society, traders and common citizens, who have been protesting in the twin cities and Murree to show solidarity with Ansar Abbasi, once again staged a protest demo in front of the Geo TV Building.

The participants of the Monday’s sit-in were holding placards favouring the daring journalist of Jang Group. Arshad Abbasi, Jamil Abbasi, Aziz Satti, Sawar Satti, Ather Minallah, Tahira Abdullah and Jahangir Akhtar were prominent among the participants.

Addressing the participants, Arshad Abbasi paid rich tributes o the editor investigations, The News, and said media was not a governing authority anywhere in the world but it was the duty of media to highlight the malpractices, and this was what Ansar Abbasi was doing.

He said Pakistanis were proud of Ansar Abbasi because of his daring reports.

Ather Minallah said the current government was a continuation of Musharraf regime and media was not let to perform its duties freely. He said it was unfortunate that the poor people of Pakistan were being suppressed at the hands of elites, but now it was the time to change. He said the inhabitants of the capital would not tolerate any harassment of Ansar Abbasi and would tackle every attack directed towards him.

Tahira Abdullah said Ansar Abbasi was a representative of 160 million Pakistanis. She said the whole credit goes to Ansar and the Jang Group for practicing daring and upright journalism.

Speakers were of the view that media in Pakistan was the only tool which exposes the wrongdoings of the politicians and top officials, and it was not let to work. They said the whole nation was behind the Jang Group and its daring journalist Ansar Abbasi because of practicing transparent and factual journalism.

Apropos the faith -reviving video from Swat: let me congratulate, not necessarily in the same order, various people — Mr Imran Khan, the Jama’at-e Islami leadership, Lt-Gen Hameed Napoleon Gul, the ANP government in the NWFP, the majority of Urdu-language columnists, some English ones who write poetic prose, and yes, tv anchors and my fellow Pakistanis.Finally, we have something to emulate, straight from the pure times of the rightly-guided caliphs. Islam, ladies and gentlemen, is here. General Zia’s dream has been fulfilled. Allah be praised.Since yesterday I have this strange sensation coursing through my veins, the feeling one gets after reading about the brave Muslims of yore in a Naseem Hijazi novel. I can’t forget the sight of three specimens of Islam’s purity, two of them pinning down a fallen young woman and one flogging her backside for having allegedly committed zina while the girl, may she be damned, cried and repented.This is Islamic justice at its most effective. It is simple, straight, speedy, effective, earthy and devoid of the meanderings and trappings of modern existence, historical accretions and bid’a-infested innovations. That’s the stuff the satanic West is made of.Okay, sure.


I am bullshitting. But really? How far from the truth am I? Let me recount.Columnist upon columnist has been writing about the brave Taliban in Afghanistan; how Taliban rule had recreated khilafat-e rashida; how there was peace in that country; how everyone was secure and so on.Mr Khan has been hell-bent on reversing all his great contributions to this country, both as a scintillating cricketer and a remarkable philanthropist, by misguiding this nation on issues of politics and inter-state relations — about which his knowledge rivals only that of a kindergarten student. He has been talking incessantly about ghairat, how this is not our war and how our sovereignty is under attack from outside etc etc.The Napoleon, Lt-Gen Gul — or shall I say Hans Guderian, since Gen Gul is an armoured corps officer and not a gunner — has been mouthing his conceptions of grand strategies even as he carries the weight on his shoulders of the shameful defeat in Jalababad, a veritable fiasco.The religious parties, especially JI, have been fudging issues and telling lies about everything under the sun.C’mon folks. Go back and focus on the discourse in this country.


From news anchors and tv hosts to columnists and experts and politicians. Revisit the days of the extraction operation against Lal Masjid and how we dealt with that. Recall how we have done everything possible to pull down the state in our enthusiasm to voice dissent on the basis of democracy which, incidentally, will be the first concept to lick the dust when the warriors come knocking on the doors.I had a hard time deciding how to deal with this issue of the flogging of a girl in Swat: express my deep resentment at the obscenity I saw or congratulate fellow Pakistanis for having successfully brought the state to this. Listen carefully to what people say on tv; deconstruct the discourse; discover the lies; the dissembling; the fudging and you would know why the flogging happened in Swat.I carried an article some weeks ago in these pages by Nasir Abbas Mirza (“How we lost Swat”, Daily Times, March 9). Go and reread it to see how and why Swat has been lost and how and why we are likely to lose the rest of Pakistan. I see outrage now. Why? Was everyone sleeping?The Urdu-language tv channels, for the most part, should be ashamed of the role they have played in giving airtime to the likes of Mr Khan, our various Napoleons and moronic politicians; for asking leading questions; for allowing them the opportunity to mouth crap; for supporting extremists in the name of jihad; for giving these thugs an aura of respectability and acceptability.So what the hell are we shocked about? Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. It’s as simple as that. We are still unclear and confused about the threat.

Every outrage begets a standard response: “Muslims can’t do this; this is a conspiracy”. In which case, we deserve what happened in Swat; in fact, far from expressing any outrage, we should celebrate the incident.The truth, however, is that Muslims can do this and more. They are doing it and will continue to do it. Listen to Haji Muslim Khan on tv channels. What kind of system and society would have him, with his pathetic knowledge of almost everything, including Islam for which he supposedly stands up, as a public figure?Listen to his fudging and his threats. Listen to what ANP minister Zahid Khan had to say about this being the tip of the iceberg.

The question is not about when this incident was filmed but the fact that it did happen; also, that the Taliban, according to their admission, have been giving these punishments and will continue to do so since this is what shariat calls for.Well, how about telling them to stuff it; that we do not accept such barbaric and medieval practices in today’s world; that Pakistani society is sophisticated enough to reject, in categorical terms, the obscenity the Taliban stand for.Are we prepared to do it; or will we remain confused about the nature, direction and extent of this threat?Finally, hello Pakistan Army. Are you guys there? I remember the in-camera briefing given to a select group of analysts back in November 2007. We were told that come March 2008, Swat would be reclaimed. Whatever the hell happened to that? Would someone tell me?But before I sign off, let me make a confession. Insert in all spaces whatever expletives you can think of because they are all there. That’s the kind of column I wanted to write. Who gives a f*** about niceties, intellectual and of other varieties, in the face of an existential threat that a collection of people has brought upon itself simply because they have some morbid notion of religion coursing through the body politic. For the last three weeks Pakistan's military rulers have been trying to convince the Taliban to hand over Osama bin Laden and avoid the catastrophe being prepared. They failed.

Since Osama is the son-in-law of Mullah Omar, the leader of the Taliban, this was hardly surprising. The more interesting question is whether Pakistan, after withdrawing its own soldiers, officers and pilots from Afghanistan, has managed to split the Taliban and withdraw some of those totally dependent on its patronage. This would be a key aim of the military regime to maintain its influence in a future coalition government in Kabul.

Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban leadership have been tense this year. Last year, in an effort to cement Pak-Afghan friendship, Pakistan dispatched a football team to play a friendly against Afghanistan. As the two teams faced each other in the stadium at Kabul with the referee about to blow the opening whistle, bearded security forces entered and announced that the Pakistani footballers were indecently attired. They were wearing normal football shorts, whereas the Afghans were dressed in surreal long shorts which came down well below the knees. Perhaps it was felt that the rippling thighs of the Pakistanis might cause upheavals in the all-male audience. Who knows? The Pakistani players were arrested, their heads were shaved and they were all flogged in public while the stadium audience was forced to chant verses from the Koran. This was Mullah Omar's friendly warning shot to the Pakistani military to assert the independence of his leadership and his loyalty to Bin Laden.

The bombing of Kabul and Kandahar by the United States and its ever-loyal British ally will not have seriously affected the fighting strength of the Taliban. The combined force - including Bin Laden's special brigade of Arabs - is now reported to consist of 30-40,000 hardened veterans. Nonetheless the Taliban are effectively encircled and isolated. Their defeat is inevitable. Both Pakistan and Iran are ranged against them on two important borders. It is unlikely they will last more than a few weeks. Obviously some of their forces will go to the mountains and wait till the west withdraws before attacking the new regime, likely to be installed in Kabul when the octogenarian King Zahir Shah is moved from his comfortable Roman villa to less salubrious surroundings in the wreckage of Kabul.

The Northern Alliance backed by the west is marginally less religious than the Taliban, but its record on everything else is just as abysmal. Over the last year they have taken over the marketing of heroin on a large scale, making a mockery of Blair's claim that this war is also a war against drugs.

The notion that they would represent an advance on the Taliban is laughable. Their first instinct will be revenge against their opponents. However the Alliance has been weakened in recent days by the defection of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, once the favourite "freedom-fighter" of the west, welcomed in the White House and Downing Street by Reagan and Thatcher.

This man has now decided to back the Taliban against the infidel. Sustaining a new client state in Afghanistan will not be an easy affair given local and regional rivalries. General Musharraf has already told Pakistanis he will not accept a regime dominated by the Northern Alliance. This is hardly surprising since his army has been fighting the Alliance for over a decade.

Till now the Pakistan army (unlike its Arab counterparts) has avoided a coup mounted by captains and colonels. It has always been the generals who have seized power and kept the army united, largely by sharing out the pieces of silver.

It is an open question whether that will be enough on this occasion. A lot will depend on the aftermath of the current war. A major concern for the overwhelming majority of Pakistanis is that the Taliban, cornered and defeated in their own country, will turn on Pakistan and wreak havoc on its cities and social fabric. Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore and Karachi are especially vulnerable. By that time the west, having scored a "victory", will turn a blind eye to the mess left behind.

As for the supposed aim of this operation - the capture of Bin Laden - this is unlikely to be easy. He is well-protected in the remote Pamir mountains and might well disappear. But victory will still be proclaimed. The west will rely on the short memory of its citizens. But let us even suppose that Bin Laden is captured and killed. How will this help the "war against terrorism"? Other individuals will decide to mimic the events of September 11 in different ways.

More importantly, the focus will shift to the Middle East. In Saudi Arabia fierce factional struggle within the royal family is in progress. Saudiologists have long recognised that Crown Prince Abdullah is close to the Wahhabi clerics. But he will still face a bitterly angry population--as will Hosni Mubarak of Egypt. The prospect of eruptions in these two countries is growing and the consequences of the Anglo-American war in Afghanistan are likely to be incendiary. CP

KARACHI, July 18: The Pakistan Football Federation said on Tuesday that it would not condemn an incident in neighbouring Afghanistan last week in which members of the Taliban militia shaved off heads of Pakistani soccer players for wearing ``un-Islamic dress'' during a friendly football match with Afghans at Kandahar.

The bizarre incident occurred when the Taliban raided the third match between the players from Pakistan and their Afghan competitors in the religious capital of Afghanistan, Kandahar, and accused the Pakistani players of ``spreading obscenity and inciting passions'' by wearing shorts.The Taliban had earlier decreed that men could wear only shalwars (baggy trousers) when playing football. The game, which has a passionate following in Afghanistan, was reluctantly allowed by the Taliban, alongwith male wrestling, after most sport activities were banned for being a waste of time.

Abdul Qayuum, captain of the young Afghan Club, Chaman (Pakistan) told a Pakistani newspaper said the players were released on Sunday last and were deported to Pakistan.The Pakistani players who escaped sought refuge in the local Pakistani consulate. But the Pakistan Football Federation said that it would not condemn the incident since the punishment was ``not that severe'' and that the match was not an official engagement between the two countries.Earlier, Afghanistan hit the sports headlines when it did not allow their boxing team to shave their beards - as it is a crime to shave one's beard in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The boxers were automatically disqualified from their Asian Boxing engagements.

There was a news item, not so long ago, about women not being able to work in lingerie shops in Saudi Arabia. According to the logic employed, women were not supposed to work and hence that extended to working in lingerie shops. The ironic consequence of that move was that in a society where men and women are not allowed to even be in physical proximity in public, women ended up having to buy their most intimate undergarments from men only.

On Friday a video aired about the Taliban “administering justice” to a 17-year-old girl accused of having illicit relations with a man. One man held her face down and held her arms, while the other flogged her buttocks with a stick. So, it’s not okay for women to be touched by male doctors, or male companions, but male executioners can hold hands and slap bottoms in front of milling crowds? The Taliban, it seems, have a thing for kink.

Apparently, one of the Taliban spokesmen said the girl had received a “lenient” sentence. Last time I checked, it took two, at least, to have illicit relations. If the girl’s sentence was lenient, one has to wonder what must have happened to the poor boy! Oh, wait – there is no boy in the video. Apparently, only girls must be punished for their libido. Boys, after all, become men when they can “tap that.” Take that for a specimen of modern thinking that gangs from Brooklyn can be proud of. Needless to say, unless one is a glutton for punishment – one should not ask for “leniency” from the Taliban.

There is something sinister at work here. There is an unacceptable cruelty disguised as spirituality that is eating away at the fabric of our country and society. There has been a slow, steady, sustained hijacking of concepts of nobility in our religion to use them as tools of repression, oppression and fear. It is the logic and hypocrisy of the Taliban when they punish only girls and not boys for the same act of “immorality,” under the guise of Islam. It is the logic which says that televisions and videos should be banned, except when their spokesman has to give an interview, or the immoral women have to be given a dose of their version of Islam. It is the logic which prohibits vulgarity and obscenity to protect our morality, but circulates videos of beheadings and shootings to young children to show them the world in its complete and total horror.

The Taliban have fed off the United States’ unpopularity in Pakistan and the globe. They have fed off the hypocrisy in foreign policy that permits and endorses the massacre of Palestinian lives to protect Israeli ones. They have fed off the lies that were told blatantly to the United Nations Security Council as a pretext to invade a country inhabited by Muslims. They have fed off the swagger and arrogance of a president who tortured and drove prisoners to insanity. They have fed off the frustration of a foreign policy that seems weighted in every measure against Muslims, and painted themselves as the vanguard of a Muslim struggle against oppression and as heroes of resistance to an empire.

We need to wake up. The United States of America is not doing this to our girls. The United States of America is not issuing edicts to shut down schools (only for girls!). The United States of America is not expelling organisations that administer polio vaccines to our children. Yet, somehow there is a deep abiding antipathy to the US. For all the United States’ failings — it was our strategic decision under the great, modern, liberal, progressive leadership of our late martyred leader Benazir Bhutto that decided to treat, further and entrench this ideology as a strategic foreign-policy asset, instead of undoing the legacy of her father’s murderer. We may have serious, even legitimate grievances against US foreign policy – but it can never destroy us in a way that this internal dogmatic interpretation of Islam can.

If we do not change things now, soon there will be nothing left to change. It is time to stop using anti-US sentiment as an excuse to do nothing about the Taliban. The Army restrains itself against these militants in no small measure, because it wants the people of Pakistan to own it and like it. We, the lawyers and civil-society activists, the wealthy and the comfortable, the educated and the elite, may not be able to fight on the frontlines. But this fight will not just be won in the valleys of Swat. It has to be won all over Pakistan, in the deserts and the mountains, from the coast of Karachi to the tip of Karakoram, in the hearts and minds of every Pakistani who must disown, despise and hate the unbending Taliban for us to fight successfully against them. There are no more half measures.

It is not a fight for America. It is a fight for the soul of this country. It is a fight for the reclamation of our religion. The Great Satan is not attacking us from outside. The Great Enemy of Islam is within us, among us, ready to explode the next bomb in the name of our God. This is a fight for our God back. Speak up, speak now, speak louder and wider. Silence now is treachery.

Zardari to sign deal despite flogging: Hoti By Ansar Abbasi Monday, April 06, 2009

ISLAMABAD: NWFP Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti says there may be a delay but no deadlock on the issue of President Asif Zardari signing the Nizam Adl law in Swat.

When asked on Sunday whether the case of Swat flogging derail the process and whether President Zardari would now give his mandatory sanction for the enforcement of Niazme Adal, he said, “There are delays but there would not be a deadlock.”

But the chief minister insisted the video clip shown on various TV channels, showing a young girl being lashed, is fake, has nothing to do with Swat and is a conspiracy to sabotage the peace process there.

Talking to The News from Peshawar, Hoti said it seems to be a conspiracy to derail the Swat peace process. Admitting the video has caused a setback to the Swat peace process, Amir Haider Khan Hoti expressed his optimism that things would proceed smoothly as soon as the dust caused by the fake video settles down.

Hoti disclosed he has already directed his chief secretary to apprise the Supreme Court about the facts of the case as the apex court would hear the case on Monday. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo motu notice of the video clips shown by television channels, and directed the provincial authorities to bring the girl before the court. A large bench of the apex court to be headed by the chief justice himself was also constituted to hear the case.The NWFP chief minister smelled a rat over the timing of the release of the video and argued, “The timing says it all and proves that some forces were bent upon derailing the Swat peace process.”

But he was determined to pursuing the peace agreement that his government had struck with Maulana Sufi Muhammad on January 26. When asked about the inquiry conducted by the provincial administration to ascertain facts as shown in the video clip, Hoti categorically said, “Our probe clearly shows that the incident as shown in the video clip has nothing to do with Swat.”

He revealed the provincial government would apprise the apex court that in the past Swat had perhaps witnessed much gory scenes, including butchering and slaughtering of human beings and there were also a few incidents of women flogging in the past but what was shown to have happened in Swat on the television screens all over the world was simply untrue.

He also pointed out the thing that needs to be noticed is that despite being flogged 35 lashes, the supposedly 17-year-old girl immediately stood up and easily went into a house without showing any sign of pain.

KHAR: The outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Bajaur Agency has barred women from acquiring computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and receiving financial assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as, according to them, it was against Islamic teachings.

This was declared by Maulvi Faqir Muhammad, chief of Bajaur chapter of the outlawed TTP, in his address through his illegal FM radio channel late Sunday night. He warned the women of the agency of dire consequences for acquisition of CNICs and receiving monetary assistance under the BISP.

Maulvi Faqir told the people to stop their women from going to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) office as women mixed with men there. He also termed the financial assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme against the Shariah and told the people not to receive the assistance.

Editorial of any newspaper is the best criteria to learn about the stand and policy of newspaper. Following is the News International's Editorial [I wonder what Ansar Abbasi has to say because he has that Islamic Itch]. Or was it just convenient to exploit Islam's Holy Name to gain some cheap political point at the cost of polluting the atmosphere. ANP is considered Left Wing Political Party and before this Alleged Incident of Flogging in Swat the mouthpiece of Jamat-e-Islami i.e. Jasarat [earlier published very explicit photos of Irman Khan in late 90s and now Imran is Jasarat's Hero] was quoting everything bad about ANP but suddenly after the alleged incident of Swat these Rascals of Jamat-e-Islami suddenly become fans of Bacha Khan [the same Jasarat during the Martial Law of General Zia (Maternal Son-In-Law of Mian Tufai - Former Ameer of JI) used to term Khan Abdul Ghaffar - A Gandhi of NWFP]. What a tragedy for these Islamists like Ansar Abbasi....

Before this incident the Minallah family was the Knight in the shining Armour even for Islamic Perverts like JI but suddenly for the JI this very family has become the family of Lucifer.

This in itself is unusual in a country where reaction to almost any outrage is now virtually non-existent; we seem to live our lives in a kind of drugged stupor, almost oblivious to what goes on around us. Perhaps this is the only way to survive in so brutalized a society. The initial attempt by the NWFP government to downplay the incident and then to term it a conspiracy is a symptom of this malaise. We would pretend we simply do not see things rather than attempt to address them. It is for this reason that those who killed a widowed school teacher for refusing to give up work or flogged at least 25 other people in Swat have never been punished.

The SC's suo motu notice of the incident and its call to the victim to appear before it is of course welcome. The CJ is clearly determined to keep up his tradition of seeking out the most vulnerable and doing what he can to ease their suffering.

But is this enough? The answer is an unequivocal 'no' – of course it is not enough. When women were buried alive in Balochistan our government appointed a man who defended that act of barbarity as a minister; when another woman was thrown, quite literally, to dogs in Sindh we seem to have witnessed a cover-up of events. And now that an act of extraordinary evil has been played out on television screens we hear nothing but silence from official quarters.

It is all very well for people to act; as we have seen before the atrocious act of brutality will be protested by activists. But is this enough? The fact is that we need the state to move in as a player. To do what it is intended to in regulating the lives of people. The fact that a teenager was beaten to near death in the streets of Swat while bearded men pinned her to the ground demonstrates that the so called 'Nizam-e-Adl' enforced in the province means nothing at all. What kind of justice would allow people – in this case let us not forget a mere child – to be treated in this fashion? It is shameful that the provincial government made an effort to deny an outrage had even been committed; that it has entered into deals with extremists who openly defended the flogging on the grounds that the girl had acted immorally.

This silence is all the more appalling given that the ANP was elected on a manifesto in which it emphasized its opposition to extremism, maintained it stood for secular liberal values and was determined to defend the rights of people who had suffered long and very badly under the militants. Instead, it has completely betrayed these people – opting instead to stand by maddened, blood-thirsty militants who have the audacity to defend what happened and justify the terrible punishment meted out. There is now no doubt at all that the party of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan is dead; so too is the party of Zulfikar Bhutto. Instead we are ruled by fumbling idiots who clearly do not have the backbone to take a stand against the militants and rescue us from the depravity into which we have been plunged.

There is still time for the government – in the province and in the centre -- to act. It must take a stand against militants; it must end the acts of insanity we see in the streets and it must demonstrate a real commitment to rescuing people from the reign of these men who have unleashed their wrath on innocent people. We wait to see if they will act. If they cannot, or are unwilling to, do so, the only honourable path left open is for the ANP government in the Frontier to step down. If people cannot be saved from extremists, if young girls are to be beaten nearly to death on roads while people look helplessly on, we can say safely that we have bid farewell to civilization. Only a government willing to make an attempt to restore it has any right to run affairs – otherwise it can have no justification for remaining in office as barbarians operate freely across the province and subject its people to their crazed notion of what religion is all about.

Islamabad: While the video tape of a seventeen-year-old girl being flogged by the Taliban has led to countrywide protests and condemnation, the NWFP government has questioned the authenticity of the video tape. But those who released the video claim that the video is both genuine and recent.

Samar Minallah, the human rights activist and documentary film-maker, while talking to The News said that the video was being circulated from mobile phone to mobile phone and from person to person. She said that she received the video via email from a human rights activist of Swat. Talking about the authenticity of the video Minallah said that everyone in Swat knows that the incident took place but unfortunately the NWFP government wants to divert the attention of the masses from the actual issue of harassment of women. She said that the facts and figures would be produced before the Supreme Court and everyone would come to know about the authenticity of the video.

“NWFP minister Mian Iftikhar directly named me while addressing a press conference yesterday while today the NWFP government has been apologising over directly blaming me”, said Samar Minallah adding: “I have got nothing from publicising this horrific video except putting my life in danger and if the government cannot provide me security then at least it should not divert the attention of the masses.”

She said that the dialect which the girl was speaking was purely of Swat as she herself has worked in Swat and any Pushtoon could recognise it. Samar said that Muslim Khan, the spokesman of Taliban in Swat, accepted that the incident took place and also told the media that the girl had an illicit relationship with her father-in-law. “If the incident did not take place then how come Muslim Khan came to know about the allegations levelled against the girl?”, said the human rights activist adding: “Muslim Khan said the actual punishment to be awarded to the girl was stoning to death but she was flogged.”

She said that a writer contributing to the BBC had confirmed that the incident was recent and from Swat.

She referred to a human rights activist of Swat who when contacted requested anonymity as publishing his name could put his life in danger. The human rights activist said that the video was so common in Swat that everyone was aware of it. The activist had said that he received the video from Taliban who were not happy with the incident as it was un-Islamic because the girl had not faced any trial. “Many Taliban were not happy with the incident and they themselves had made the video and circulated it”, said the human rights activist adding: “The girl’s younger brother was forced to hold her at gunpoint and the man lashing the girl also abused that boy which could be heard easily; the Taliban said to that boy, “Pimp, take her inside the house?”

The activist from Swat said that the incident took place in a remote area near village Serbanda in upper Swat and many Taliban say that it was an illegal activity as proper procedure of having four witnesses was not adopted. He was of the view that the video was recent and there were many other similar incidents which could not be highlighted by the media.

MINGORA: Spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Swat chapter, Muslim Khan, has claimed the video clip showing a young girl being flogged by the Taliban is fake and those responsible for the distortion of facts must be awarded exemplary punishment.

Talking to journalists in Dakorak area of Charbagh Tehsil on Saturday, Muslim Khan condemned those responsible for providing the allegedly fake video to the media and said these elements were trying to derail the peace process in Swat.

He said Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry should question the originality of the footage and order an inquiry and take action against those responsible for preparing the ‘fake’ video.

He said the Taliban did not lash the girl.

Instead, they used young boys to award the punishment. He said the accused was a 34-year-old woman and not a 17-year-old girl. He said the woman was punished for her illicit relations with her father-in-law.

He said a conspiracy was being hatched against the Swat Taliban and the peace agreement with the provincial government. He said suo moto action should also be taken against the drone attacks in the tribal areas from across the border.

Muslim Khan said the video released to the media was nine months old and was made at a time when the military operation was going on in Swat.

As the entire Pakistani nation watches video footage of a 17-years-old girl screaming on their television screens during the process of her torture at the hands of the brutal Taliban in Swat, one wonders if the mothers, sisters, daughters and the male members of this nation will ever take time out to think about this system of justice advocated by these men who are not even qualified to interpret the Quran and Sunnah.

How did these men know that she had committed adultery? Or were the men in Iran, who ran a jeep over both the arms of a young boy to punish him for stealing sure about his economic circumstances? Sadly, all this will be justified in certain quarters as upholding of Sharia. But the legal system of any land is meant to do justice which is not just the application of some legal norms, but the application of law in conjunction with sensitivity towards the economic, social and political conditions of a place.

The application of Sharia is extremely complex as it entails a stringent mechanism for evidence. For instance, a witness has to meet certain conditions. The witness has to be one: (a) who has never been punished for any crime, (b) has always said all his prayers in time, (c) never urinated standing up, (d) never eaten from a market place, (e) never committed any major sin, (f) never committed any minor sin, and (g) never failed to carry out obligations prescribed by Quran and Sunnah. These conditions are so stringent that according to Pakistan's former Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah even he would not qualify to be a witness.

Referring to the case of the girl flogged in Swat, the fact of the matter is that this is one example of the dire conditions of women in a large number of Muslim societies where there is no legal system for this particular gender to prove their innocence. In Pakistan in particular where the Hudood laws were formulated under the Zia regime, the objective was not to bring justice in the society but to throttle all forms of justice. In this respect, the Taliban in Swat and those who ruled Afghanistan for some time are Zia'children. They use force arbitrarily and apply laws without the real context to enhance their own power.

For those, who think of General Ziaul Haq as an exemplary marde momin, it would be beneficial to read Tahir Wasti's seminal work --- Application of Islamic Criminal Law in Pakistan: Sharia in Practice". The book published in January this year and authored by a man, who has experience of both Islamic law and British common law, is the first detailed research enlisting the ramifications of the application of sharia law in Pakistan. The writer argues that Zia's decision to impose Nizam-e-Islam on February 2 1979 was not a sincere act. Wasti, in fact, argues that had the military dictator been sincere he would have also invoked the law of Qisas and Diyat as part of his Islamic regulations that mainly consisted of the five laws pertaining to: drinking, Zina (adultery), Zakat and usher, highway robbery, and theft. The punishment for some of these crimes is not even prescribed in the Quran.

The reason that Zia left out Qisas and Diyat, which finally became an ordinance in 1990 during Benazir Bhutto's government and finally passed as a law after twenty minutes of debate in parliament under Nawaz Sharif was because he was too eager to hang Bhutto. Such a law would not have allowed for the approver Masood Mehmood, which, in turn, means that Bhutto could not have been sentenced to death.

Not surprisingly, Bhutto had filed a review petition number 5-R of 1979 on 13/02/1979 in the Supreme Court asking that his case be tried under Sharia or Nizam-e-Islam through first invoking the law on Qisas and Diyat. Notwithstanding the fact that while in power Bhutto himself played to the gallery by using religion, in case of his trial his plea to use the religious law was primarily as a legal point that would technically stop the Zia government from sentencing him to death. Interestingly, as Wasti points out in his book, Zia kept returning the draft of this law until he had managed to put Bhutto to death. The Supreme Court justices gave a split decision on the Bhutto case arguing on page 29 of the decision of the said review petition that under section 302 of the PPC read with section 109 of the PPC, this was a case of unintentional murder in which there was no room for the witness of an approver. The decision including the said review petition by
Bhutto is reported in PLD 1979 Supreme Court 741 and the two volumes on "Bhutto's Trial Documents" published by Justice Afzal Haider.

Zia's government also challenged other cases in which such a law needed implementation. Unfortunately, the author states, it were judges like Justices Tanzeel-ur-Rehman and Afzal Cheema who helped Zia cheat the entire country by bringing about amendments in the sharia law that suited the military dictator's interests and allowed him not to pass the law on Qisas and Diyat as long as he was alive.

What is even sadder is that such discrepancy in Nizam-e-Islam was never seriously challenged by any quarters. Even after the Qisas and Diyat law came into force, first as an ordinance, and later, as law, no one really pointed out the problem in invoking the said law. As Wasti points out in his book, since it is difficult to find a witness, the law of Qisas was never implemented and the government basically uses tazeer or diyat to pass judgments. Diyat allows for compromise in case of murder, a law which was framed not to bring peace and justice in the society according to religious principles, but to suit the interests of the more powerful. There are cases after cases reported in Wasti's book in which poor and weak people were forced to accept a compromise and forgive the murderers of their loved ones. The law even encouraged exchange of women as part of a settlement. Reportedly, since the law came into force some judges showed their magnanimity by ordering the payment of blood-money in addition to exchange of women. Interestingly, the system was never fully challenged by the legal community due to what senior lawyer and now human rights activist Iqbal Haider termed, on the floor of parliament in 1990, as greed of the legal community. This law permits lawyers to claim their fee without putting in effort that they would otherwise have to do to in defense of their clients.

The screams of the young Swati girl are the knock on the door of the entire society to wake up and not allow these men and others like them, who are at best Zia's children in terms of their sense of legal fairness, to bring violence in this country in the name of religion. This is not just about better treatment of women but also a matter of justice for all and peace and tranquility in the society. What is being presented as sharia is in reality a system that protects the unquestioned power of those who have monopoly over violence and resources in the society. A legal system is an ever-evolving process that needn't mimic the past without taking into account the circumstances. In the words of Maulana Amin Ahsan Aslahi, religion of the past is history of the present which can only be used as a good reference point and no more.
