KARACHI: The chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and head of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman have decided in principle to bring an in-house change in the Balochistan Assembly.

The JUI-F chief welcomed a suggestion by Chaudhry Shujaat that both the political parties could unite to change the chief minister of the province. Chaudhry Shujaat proposed that both the PML-Q and JUI-F, with the help of independent MPAs, could form a democratic government in Balochistan. He was of the view that this decision would greatly helpresolve the problems being faced by the people of the province.

In response, the Maulana said the matter could be further discussed if such a move comes from Chaudhry Shujaat. Both said the in-house change largely depends on the PPP and they would decide about their future strategies keeping in view their limitations. Both the leaders expressed these views in the Geo News programme “Capital Talk”, hosted by Hamid Mir.

In the discussion on “What JUI-F and PML-Q can try to achieve jointly”, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said: “We were tied with the government through the thread of reconciliation, but the government has cut that thread. Now we have applied for the opposition benches.”

He was of the view that the future of the government would depend on the attitude of the PPP. He said he has called a party meeting to devise future line of action. The Maulana said during his meeting with President Zardari, he told him to take notice of people’s wrongs.

About his telephonic discussion with the MQM chief Altaf Hussain, the Maulana said the Muttahida wants to know the intentions of other political parties for the future. “I told Altaf Hussain that you are free to take your own decisions. It was our own decision to part ways with the government.”

Referring to President Zardari’s letter to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, he said now that the JUI-F is no longer part of the government and the MQM is also weighing options in this regard, the president wrote the letter to woo Nawaz. “The government is now isolated because of its wrong policies.”

On RGST, the Maulana said he has told Zardari that it would be very difficult for his party to support it. “I told President Zardari we should not be punished for the crime we haven’t committed.”

The JUI-F chief criticised Punjab governor Salman Taseer for meeting the blasphemy accused and criticising the blasphemy law, which spread unrest in the masses. He proposed that the matter should be referred to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII). He lamented that the parliamentary resolution against the drone attacks has no value. “We opposed the Swat and Waziristan operations from the day first,” he said, adding that Swat operation failed to produce the desired objectives.

Chaudhry Shujaat said he was against the in-house change. “We want this government to complete its tenure after which the people could see their real face,” he said, adding: “Nawaz Sharif would come to rescue the government if anyone brings no-trust move in the parliament.”

The PML-Q chief said his party was not active in any such activity. However, he said every thing will become crystal clear in the next election. Referring to his telephonic discussion with Altaf Hussain, Chaudhry Shujaat said he assured the MQM chief that they would not become part of any conspiracy to derail the democratic process. “There is no hidden power behind us and we would not like to occupy the seat on the pretext that it is empty for the time being.”

He said the government is causing its own downfall. About his meeting with Zardari, he said, he knew before hand there will be no outcome of the meeting. He said the common man is totally unaware of the RGST. “It seems that Nawaz Sharif will use the formula of greater national interest on this matter as well.”

He said some people misuse the blasphemy law but it doesn’t mean that it should be amended. Rather, he said, a new law should be introduced in this regard as amendment in blasphemy law would create many complications.

The PML-Q chief said the matter of military operation in North Waziristan should be discussed in the National Assembly. He said the operation should not be conducted on the dictates of General Mike Mullen. “There is no harm in searching out political solution to the matter.” http://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx?ID=2796&Cat=13
