Was "Sufi" Abdullah Shah Ghazi a Banu Ummayya General!

Note: Please read this post as a Research Post and not as a Sectarian post, I have just mentioned History as reported by the Historians, purpose of this post is research not to mock or attack any community - KARACHI: Annual three-days ‘Urs’, the birth anniversary celebrations of famous saint Hazrat Syed Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA), will be held from Nov 17 to 19. A large number of devotees are expected to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of the saint, scheduled to be held at his shrine at Clifton here, said a statement issued on Friday. (Daily Times Dated 12 Nov 2011) - During Cyclone Yemyin in 2007, a  female news reporter on a visit to Abdullah Shah Ghazi's Shrine in Clifton Karachi commented on the view of those who visit this shrine for all the worldly and heavenly [life after death] blessings. She said that there is a belief prevalent amongst Karachiites that "All the Cyclones which are supposed to hit Karachi stopped by Abdullah Shah Ghazi and his shrine" I wonder what happened to Shah Noorani of Baluchistan where Muslims go to perform Noorani Hajj? Has his power been usurped by someone, who stops Noorani Baba from saving lives of Innocent people of Baluchistan? Shouldn't Dawn News Channel and thousands of other private TV Channels launch a campaign like famous Singer Fakhar Alam did to help the poor victim of 2005 Earthquake. The Earthquake had hit the area where Shah Ismail Shaheed Dehelvi and Syed Ahmed Shaheed were martyred and buried as well? What happened to their powers? Who suspended the powers of those Saints buried in Thatta District to save the people of Badin and Thatta from this man made calamity [yes Rain is blessings it is the government of the day who should be held responsible for not reaching to the people to help them], or Should we wind up every Rescue Agency in Pakistan and start building Pucca and Plastered Air Conditioned Shrines along Coastal Area of Sindh Baluchistan to save people form Cyclones? Reference: Urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi from 17th Saturday, November 12, 2011 http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2011%5C11%5C12%5Cstory_12-11-2011_pg12_5

Abdullah Shah Ghazi (The Patron Saint of Sindh)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I_H1G8lZXk

As per Dr. Umar Bin Muhammad Daudpota proposes that the real name of Abdullah Shah was General Abdulla bin Nabhan. Who along with another senior commander, Badil bin Tuhafa, had launched a military expedition against the local ruler, Raja Dahir. The assault was a response to the activities of Raja Dahir, who was seen as encouraging pirates to raid Arab shipping. The war is generally attributed to being triggered by a noble woman who wrote to the then Governor of Basra, Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, that she had been kidnapped. Al Hajjaj then wrote a letter to the Raja Dahir who replied that he did not exercise any control over pirates in his kingdom thereby triggering a military expedition that ensued at Debal, near modern day Karachi. Later, a second mission was entrusted to a young commander, Muhammad bin Qasim who successfully defeated the Raja and rescued the noble woman and the other muslim prisoners. This version is at odds with first, as it paints a picture of an Ummayad prince. Ummayyads persecuted the progeny of prophet Muhammad particularly the families of the imams in whom was vested religious authority which challenged the former's role as Kahalifas (Caliphs). Lets have a look at this claim through History.

"UNQUOTE"

As per Sahih Bukhari and Usd al-ghābah fi ma‘rifat al-ṣaḥābah by Ibn al-Athīr [Biographies of 8, 000 Companions of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)], Hazrat Hamza bin Abdul Muttallib (May Allah be pleased with him) was Martyred in Battle of Uhud more than 1400 years ago but Hamid Mir insist in his alleged column Monday, November 14, 2011, Zil Hajj 17, 1432 A.H. (demise of common sense) that seeking pardon from Hamzah (May Allah be pleased with him) is a must despite of the fact that Hamza (May Allah be pleased with him) is dead and Dead cannot listen and answer. I have been to Saudi Arabia and there is no Shrine of Hamza (RA) but a simple grave.

QURAN says on Shirk [Polytheism]:

وَإِذْ قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لابْنِهِ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُ يَبُنَىَّ لاَ تُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيم

English Translation:

And (remember) when Luqman said unto his son, when he was exhorting him: O my dear son! Ascribe no partners unto Allah. Lo! to ascribe partners (unto Him) is a tremendous wrong [LUQMAN (LUQMAN) Chapter 31 - Verse 13]

English Translation:

Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin [Women - Surah An Nisa'a - Chapter 4 - Verse 48]

English Translation:

And Allah judges with truth, while those to whom they invoke besides Him, cannot judge anything. Certainly, Allah! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [AL-GHAFIR (THE FORGIVER (GOD) Chapter 40 - Verse 20]

Dead cannot listen:

Those unto whom they cry beside Allah created naught, but are themselves created. (They are) dead, not living. And they know not when they will be raised. [AN-NAHL (THE BEE) Chapter 16 Verse 20 and 21]

Lo! Thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee; [AL-NAML (THE ANT, THE ANTS) Chapter 27 Verse 80]

English Translation:

Nor are the living equal with the dead. Lo! Allah maketh whom He will to hear. Thou canst not reach who are in the graves. {FATIR (THE ANGELS, ORIGNATOR) Chapter 35 - Verse 22]

English Translation:

And who is further astray than those who instead of Allah, pray unto such as hear not their prayer until the Day of Resurrection, and are unconscious of their prayer. [AL-AHQAF (THE WIND-CURVED SANDHILLS, THE DUNES) Chapter Chapter 46 - Verse 5]

Knowledge of Unseen:

Say (O Muhammad, to the disbelievers): I say not unto you (that) I possess the treasures of Allah, nor that I have knowledge of the Unseen; and I say not unto you: Lo! I am an angel. I follow only that which is inspired in me. Say: Are the blind man and the seer equal? Will ye not then take thought? [AL-ANAAM (CATTLE, LIVESTOCK) Chapter 6 Verse 50]

Say [O Prophet]: For myself I have no power to benefit, nor power to hurt, save that which Allah willeth. Had I knowledge of the Unseen, I should have abundance of wealth, and adversity would not touch me. I am but a warner, and a bearer of good tidings unto folk who believe. [AL-ARAF (THE HEIGHTS) Chapter 7 Verse 188]

And they will say: If only a portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Then say, (O Muhammad): The Unseen belongeth to Allah. So wait! Lo! I am waiting with you. [YUNUS (JONAH) Chapter 10 Verse 20]

Say (O Muhammad): None in the heavens and the earth knoweth the Unseen save Allah; and they know not when they will be raised (again). [AL-NAML (THE ANT, THE ANTS) Chapter 27 Verse 65]

This is of the tidings of things hidden. We reveal it unto thee (Muhammad). Thou wast not present with them when they threw their pens (to know) which of them should be the guardian of Mary, nor wast thou present with them when they quarrelled (thereupon). [AL-E-IMRAN (THE FAMILY OF 'IMRAN, THE HOUSE OF 'IMRAN) Chapter 3 Verse 44]

This is of the tidings of the Unseen which We inspire in thee (Muhammad). Thou wast not present with them when they fixed their plan and they were scheming. [YUSUF (JOSEPH) Chapter 12 Verse 102]

And thou (Muhammad) wast not on the western side (of the Mount) when We expounded unto Moses the commandment, and thou wast not among those present; [AL-QASAS (THE STORY, STORIES) Chapter 28 Verse 44]

Allah solves the problems [mean He is the giver and provider further meaning Gharib Nawaz, Mushkil Kusha, Ganj Bukhsh, Daata, Ghaus-e-Azam nothing but Him is Haqq]

And her Lord accepted her with full acceptance and vouchsafed to her a goodly growth; and made Zachariah her guardian. Whenever Zachariah went into the sanctuary where she was, he found that she had food. He said: O Mary! Whence cometh unto thee this (food)? She answered: It is from Allah. Allah giveth without stint to whom He will. [AL-E-IMRAN (THE FAMILY OF 'IMRAN, THE HOUSE OF 'IMRAN) Chapter 3 Verse 37]

If Allah touch thee with affliction, there is none that can relieve therefrom save Him, and if He touch thee with good fortune (there is none that can impair it); for He is Able to do all things. [AL-ANAAM (CATTLE, LIVESTOCK) Chapter 6 Verse 17]

And if misfortune touch a man he crieth unto Us, (while reclining) on his side, or sitting or standing, but when We have relieved him of the misfortune he goeth his way as though he had not cried unto Us because of a misfortune that afflicted him. Thus is what they do made (seeming) fair unto the prodigal. [YUNUS (JONAH) Chapter 10Verse 12]

O mankind! Ye are the poor in your relation to Allah. And Allah! He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise. [FATIR (THE ANGELS, ORIGNATOR) Chapter 35 Verse 15]

Is not He (best) Who made the earth a fixed abode, and placed rivers in the folds thereof, and placed firm hills therein, and hath set a barrier between the two seas? Is there any Allah beside Allah? Nay, but most of them know not! [AL-NAML (THE ANT, THE ANTS) Chapter 27 Verse 61]

Nay - who is it that responds to the distressed when he calls out to Him, and who removes the ill [that caused the distress], and has made you inherit the earth? Could there be any divine power besides God? How seldom do you keep this in mind! [[AL-NAML (THE ANT, THE ANTS) Chapter 27 Verse 62]

Unto Allah belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He createth what He will. He bestoweth female (offspring) upon whom He will, and bestoweth male (offspring) upon whom He will; Or He mingleth them, males and females, and He maketh barren whom He will. Lo! He is Knower, Powerful. [ASH-SHURA (COUNCIL, CONSULTATION) Chapter 42 Verse 49 and 50]

Allah is the guide not Mohammad [PBUH] or anyone else:

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاء وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ

Lo! thou (O Muhammad) guidest not whom thou lovest, but Allah guideth whom He will. And He is Best Aware of those who walk aright. [AL-QASAS (THE STORY, STORIES) Chapter 28 Verse 56]

Is he, the evil of whose deeds is made fair seeming unto him so that he deemeth it good, (other than Satan's dupe)? Allah verily sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth whom He will; so let not thy soul expire in sighings for them. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do! [FATIR (THE ANGELS, ORIGNATOR) Chapter 35 Verse 8]

Is he on whom the word of doom is fulfilled (to be helped), and canst thou (O Muhammad) rescue him who is in the Fire? [AZ-ZUMAR (THE TROOPS, THRONGS) Chapter 39 Verse 19]

Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, Thou art not at all a warder over them. [AL-GHASHIYA (THE OVERWHELMING, THE PALL) Chapter 88 Verse 21 and 22]

Lame excuses of those who are ignorant [Yaani Andhi Taqleed]

And when it is said unto them: Come unto that which Allah hath revealed and unto the messenger, they say: Enough for us is that wherein we found our fathers. What! Even though their fathers had no knowledge whatsoever, and no guidance? [AL-MAEDA (THE TABLE, THE TABLE SPREAD) Chapter 5 Verse 104]

They said: O Shu'eyb! Doth thy way of prayer command thee that we should forsake that which our fathers (used to) worship, or that we (should leave off) doing what we will with our own property. Lo! thou art the mild, the guide to right behaviour. [HUD (HUD) Chapter 11 Verse 87]

Their messengers said: Can there be doubt concerning Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calleth you that He may forgive you your sins and reprieve you unto an appointed term. They said: Ye are but mortals like us, who would fain turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. Then bring some clear warrant. [IBRAHIM (ABRAHAM) Chapter 14 Verse 10]

They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? [AL-SHUARA (THE POETS) Chapter 26 Verse 71,72 and 73]

Allah is to be worshipped not the Saints.

Lo! those on whom ye call beside Allah are slaves like unto you. Call on them now, and let them answer you, if ye are truthful! [AL-ARAF (THE HEIGHTS) Chapter 7 Verse 194]

And they have chosen (other) gods beside Allah that they may be a power for them. Nay, but they will deny their worship of them, and become opponents unto them. [MARYAM (MARY) Chapter 19 Verse 81 and 82]

Seek Allah’s help directly without any intercession [Tawwassul Aur Waseelay Ka Shirk –Polytheism of Intercession]

They worship beside Allah that which neither hurteth them nor profiteth them, and they say: These are our intercessors with Allah. Say: Would ye inform Allah of (something) that He knoweth not in the heavens or in the earth? Praised be He and High Exalted above all that ye associate (with Him)! [YUNUS (JONAH) Chapter 10 Verse 18]

Surely pure religion is for Allah only. And those who choose protecting friends beside Him (say): We worship them only that they may bring us near unto Allah. Lo! Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Lo! Allah guideth not him who is a liar, an ingrate. [AZ-ZUMAR (THE TROOPS, THRONGS) Chapter 39 Verse 3]

Offering in the name of Saints other than Allah. [Nazar Niyaz, Koonday, Giyarwin Shareef etc.etc.]

He hath forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swineflesh, and that which hath been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. [AL-BAQARA (THE COW) Chapter 2 Verse 173]

They invoke in His stead only females; they pray to none else than Satan, a rebel Whom Allah cursed, and he said: Surely I will take of Thy bondmen an appointed portion, [AN-NISA (WOMEN) Chapter 4 Verse 117 and 118]

Forbidden unto you (for food) are carrion and blood and swineflesh, and that which hath been dedicated unto any other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which hath been killed by (the goring of) horns, and the devoured of wild beasts, saving that which ye make lawful (by the death-stroke) , and that which hath been immolated unto idols. And (forbidden is it) that ye swear by the divining arrows. This is an abomination. This day are those who disbelieve in despair of (ever harming) your religion; so fear them not, fear Me! This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour unto you, and have chosen for you as religion al-Islam. Whoso is forced by hunger, not by will, to sin: (for him) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. [AL-MAEDA (THE TABLE, THE TABLE SPREAD) Chapter 5 Verse 3]

Prophets [Peace be upon them] were humans not Angels.

We sent not before thee (any messengers) save men whom We inspired from among the folk of the townships - Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? And verily the abode of the Hereafter, for those who ward off (evil), is best. Have ye then no sense? – [YUSUF (JOSEPH) Chapter 12 Verse 109]

Their messengers said unto them: We are but mortals like you, but Allah giveth grace unto whom He will of His slaves. It is not ours to bring you a warrant unless by the permission of Allah. In Allah let believers put their trust! [IBRAHIM (ABRAHAM) Chapter 14 Verse 10 and 11]

Say: I am only a mortal like you. My Lord inspireth in me that your Allah is only One Allah. And whoever hopeth for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous work, and make none sharer of the worship due unto his Lord. [AL-KAHF (THE CAVE) Chapter 18 Verse 110]

Proof from Sunnah:

Hadith Qudsi:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (glorified and exalted be He) said: I am so self-sufficient that I am in no need of having an associate. Thus he who does an action for someone else's sake as well as Mine will have that action renounced by Me to him whom he associated with Me. It was related by Muslim (also by Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi:

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: Allah the Almighty said: O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it. It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal). Its chain of authorities is sound.

Hadith Qudsi:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah Almighty has said: The son of Adam denied Me and he had no right to do so. And he reviled Me and he had no right to do so. As for his denying Me, it is his saying: He will not remake me as He made me at first (1) - and the initial creation [of him] is no easier for Me than remaking him. As for his reviling Me, it is his saying: Allah has taken to Himself a son, while I am the One, the Everlasting Refuge. I begot not nor was I begotten, and there is none comparable to Me. (1) i.e., bring me back to life after death. It was related by al-Bukhari (also by an-Nasa'i).

Hadith on Grave/Shrine Worshipping [Qabar/Peer Parasti]:

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} said: It is better that one of you should sit on live coals which will burn his clothes and the heat should mark his skin than that he should sit on grave. {Muslim}.

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} forbade that the graves should be plastered or they should be used as sitting places (for the people) or a building should be erected over them. {Muslim}.

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} said: Do not travel for any mosque except Mecca, Medina and Al-Aqsa. {Bukhari and Muslim}.

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} said: Do not make my grave a place for festival you just recite Darood as Allah conveys your Darood to me. {Nisai}.

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} had cursed those women visit graves. {Masnad Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal, Tirmidhi, and Ibn-e-Maja}.

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} prayed: O Allah! Don’t let them make my grave an Idol lest it be worshipped. Then said Curse of Allah descended upon those who turned the graves of their Prophets {PBUT} into mosques. {Mauta Imam Malik}.

Holy Prophet Muhammad {PBUH} said: Be warned of the practice of those people who used to turn the graves of their Prophets and Saints into mosques I forbade you. {Muslim}.

“Jabir said : Allaah’s Messenger forbade that the graves should be plastered or, they be used as sitting places (for the people), or a building should be built over them” [Sahih Muslim]

I heard the messenger of Allaah commanding (us) to level the grave. 'Abdullaah Ibn Sharjeel Hasanah said: "I saw ‘Uthmaan Ibn ‘Affaan order the leveling of the graves. So it was said to him: 'This is the grave of Umm ‘Amr the daughter of ‘Uthmaan!' However, he commanded that it too should be leveled." [Related by Ibn Abee Shaybah in al-Musannaf and Aboo Zur‘ah in at-Taareekh]

From Abul-Hayyaaj al-Asadee who said: "‘Alee Ibn Abee Taalib said to me: 'Shall I not send you for what the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) sent me? That you deface all statues and pictures and that you level all elevated graves." [Related by Muslim , Aboo Daawood and an-Nisaa‘ee]

Jundub Ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Bajalee said that he heard the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say – five days before he died: "Verily those before you took the graves of their Prophets and righteous people as places of worship, so do not take the graves as places of worship. Indeed I forbid you from this!" [Related by Muslim, and Aboo ‘Awaanah]

From Aboo Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "O Allaah, do not turn my grave into an idol. May the curse of Allaah be upon those who take the graves of their Prophets as places of worship." [Related by Ahmad, Ibn Sa‘d]

Aboo Burdah said: "Aboo Moosaa al-Ash‘aree advised us before he died, saying: 'You should hasten with my janaazah…and do not put in my lahad (a cleavage in the side of the grave where the body is placed) anything that will come between me and the earth, nor build anything over my grave. So bear witness that I am free of those women who shave their heads, tear their clothes or beat their cheeks.' They said: 'Did you hear anything about this?' He said: 'Yes, from the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)!'" [Related by Musnad Ahmad Bin Hanbal]

That you deface all statues and pictures and that you level all elevated graves.'" [Related by Muslim, Aboo Daawood, an-Nisaa‘ee]

So if we cannot construct anything on the grave then how can Mazar exist, and when there is no existence of Mazar, where is the question of visiting it. Most of the Muslim Kings who invaded India were disciples of several Sufi Orders [which is itself a Bida'at (innovation) e.g. Mughals were disciples of Naqshbandi Order (their practices are worst kind of polytheism).

Meaning of al-Waseelah:

O ye who believe! Be mindful of your duty to Allah, and seek the way of approach unto Him, [AL-MAEDA (THE TABLE, THE TABLE SPREAD) Chapter 5 - Verse 35]

Waseelah is nearness and the means by which one approaches and draws near to something. In the Islamic context, Waseelah refers to the means by which once can achieve nearness with Allah.

Another meaning of al-Waseelah is a rank and standing with Allah, as is the Hadeeth. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “When you hear the caller to prayer then say the like of what he says, then send blessings upon me… Then ask Allah to grant me al-Waseelah because it is a station in Paradise, which is appropriate only for a single servant from the servants of Allah, and I hope that it will be me.”[Muslim]

The Meaning of al-Waseelah as explained in the Qur’aan The definition of Waseelah, “it is the means by which one achieves nearness to Allah”, has its basis in the Qur’aan.

Those unto whom they cry seek the way of approach to their Lord, which of them shall be the nearest; they hope for His mercy and they fear His doom. Lo! the doom of thy Lord is to be shunned. [AL-ISRA (ISRA', THE NIGHT JOURNEY, CHILDREN OF ISRAEL) Chapter 17 - Verse 57]

Abdullah Ibn Mas’oud (radhi allahu anhu) said: “This verse was revealed concerning a group of Arabs, who worshiped a group of Jinn. The Jinn accepted Islam which was unknown to those people who worshiped them.”[Bukhari/Muslim]

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr (rahimahullah) said: “The people who used to worship the Jinn continued to worship the Jinn, and the Jinn were not pleased with their worship, since they had accepted Islam. And they were the ones who sought a means of nearness to their Lord…” [Fath al-Baree]

Allah says in the Qur’aan:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَابْتَغُواْ إِلَيهِ الْوَسِيلَةَ وَجَاهِدُواْ فِي سَبِيلِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

O ye who believe! Be mindful of your duty to Allah, and seek the way of approach unto Him, and strive in His way in order that ye may succeed. [AL-MAEDA (THE TABLE, THE TABLE SPREAD) Chapter 5 - Verse 35]

Al-Hafidh Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) reported Ibn Abbas (radhi allahu anhu) saying in his commentary of this verse:

“The meaning of al-Waseelah is to draw closer.”

He also reports from Qatadah: “This is that you draw near to Him by obedience to Him and through actions that are pleasing to Him.”

And Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) said: “And with regard to what those Imams (Ibn Abbas and Qatadah) said there is no disagreement between the scholars of Tafseer about it… al-Waseelah is that by means of which one reaches that which he desires.”[Tafseer Ibn Katheer].

These two verses and their authentic Tafseers (commentaries) clearly explain that Waseelah consists of seeking nearness to Allah by means of righteousness in order to get closer to Allah. This refutes any other explanation of Waseelah like that of those who consider Waseelah to mean directly supplicating to the dead saints. It refutes the erroneous belief held by the Deobandis of seeking ‘Tawassul’ through the status and honor of the Prophets and saints.

This also refutes the incorrect Tafseer by the Deobandis that…

Moulana Aashiq Ilahi Meerathi mentions in Irshaadul-Mulook, “It is imperative for the Salik (one searching for the path) to have a Shaik-e-Kamil (spiritual guide) so that the Shaikh becomes the companion along this road, and explains the ups and downs and the pitfalls of this journey. Hence, Allah says: “O People of Eemaan! Adopt Taqwa (god fearing) and search for a Waseelah (means) towards Allah.” [Irshaadul-Mulook (Eng. Trans.) p.46.]

Tawassul in the Qur’aan and the Sunnah The correct means of Tawassul are three… Tawassul by means of Allah’s Beautiful Names, Tawassul by means of righteous deeds of the supplicant and, Tawassul by means of a supplication made by a righteous person.

(1) Tawassul by means of Allah’s Beautiful Names Allah says:

وَلِلّهِ الأَسْمَاء الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا وَذَرُواْ الَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِي أَسْمَآئِهِ سَيُجْزَوْنَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ

Allah's are the fairest names. Invoke Him by them. And leave the company of those who blaspheme His names. They will be requited what they do. [AL-ARAF (THE HEIGHTS) Chapter 7 - Verse 180]

Tawassul by means of Allah’s Beautiful Names is to invoke Allah mentioning His Beautiful Names, like saying, “O Allah, I ask you for You being the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, the Most Gracious, the All-Knower that You grant me safety and well being…” This form of Tawassul is known from numerous Ahaadeeth.

Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) would say before giving salaam in his prayer: “O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the hidden and Unseen, and Your Power over the creation, grant me life for as long as You Know that life is good for me, and grant me death when death is good for me…”[Mustadrak Al-Haakim and Sunan an-Nisa’ee]

Once, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) saw a man saying in his Tashahhud: ‘I ask You by virtue of the fact that all praise belongs to You, none has the right to be worshiped but You Alone, having no partner. The Great Bestower of all blessings, O Originator of the Heavens and the Earth. O Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer and Protector of all that exists. Indeed, I ask You for Paradise, and I seek Your Refuge from the Fire.” So the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said to his companions: “Do you know what he has supplicated with?” They said: “Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) know best.” He said: “By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, he has supplicated to Allah by His Great Name, if He is called upon by them, He responds and if He is asked by it, He gives.”[Abu Dawood, An-Nisa’ee, and Musnad Ahmad]

Anas (radhi allahu anhu) reported saying, when a matter grieved the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), he would say: “O Ever-Living, O Sustainer and Protector of all that exists, by Your Mercy I beg of Your aid.”[Tirmidhee and Mustadrak al-Haakim]

(2) Tawassul by means of Righteous deeds of the Supplicant

Those who say: Our Lord! Lo! We believe. So forgive us our sins and guard us from the punishment of Fire; [AL-E-IMRAN (THE FAMILY OF 'IMRAN, THE HOUSE OF 'IMRAN) Chapter 3 - Verse 16]

Tawassul by means of righteous deeds is to invoke Allah by mentioning one’s righteous actions, in which he feared Allah and hoped for His Mercy and reward, while giving precedence to His obedience. Like saying,

Our Lord! We believe in that which Thou hast revealed and we follow him whom Thou hast sent. Enrol us among those who witness (to the truth). [AL-E-IMRAN (THE FAMILY OF 'IMRAN, THE HOUSE OF 'IMRAN) Chapter 3 - Verse 53]

Our Lord! Lo! we have heard a crier calling unto Faith: "Believe ye in your Lord!" So we believed. Our Lord! Therefor forgive us our sins, and remit from us our evil deeds, and make us die the death of the righteous. [AL-E-IMRAN (THE FAMILY OF 'IMRAN, THE HOUSE OF 'IMRAN) Chapter 3 - Verse 193]

Lo! There was a party of My slaves who said: Our Lord! We believe, therefore forgive us and have mercy on us for Thou art Best of all who show mercy; [AL-MUMENOON (THE BELIEVERS) Chapter 23 - Verse 109]

This form of Tawassul is also mentioned in a number of Ahaadeeth of Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam). From amongst them is the famous story of the companions of the cave. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) mentioned the story of three men who spent a night in a cave. A boulder rolled down from the mountain and blocked the entrance of the cave. So, they supplicated to Allah by means of their righteous actions. One of them mentioned his obedience towards his elderly parents, the other mentioned an incident when he refrained from zina (adultery) despite having the means to do so, and the third mentioned an incident in which he was truthful and honest in a monetary matter. Allah, the Exalted, upon hearing their supplication moved the rock from the entrance of the cave.[Bukhari]

(3) Tawassul by means of a Supplication made by a Righteous Person

This third type of Tawassul is to ask any righteous living person to make Du’aa (supplication) for oneself.

Anas (radhi allahu anhu) reported saying: “The people were afflicted with drought in the time of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), so whilst the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) was giving the Khutbah (sermon) on the day of Jumuah, a Bedouin stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)! The livestock are dying and the children are hungry, so supplicate to Allah for us.” So he (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) raised his hands and supplicated and we could not see any trace of clouds. By Him, in Whose Hands is my soul, as soon as he had lowered his hands, clouds like mountains had gathered, and he did not descend from his minbar (pulpit) until I saw rain dripping from his beard...” [Bukhari]

Tawassul by means of a Supplication made by a Righteous Person is also reported from the practice of the Sahabah (radhi allahu anhu). Anas Ibn Malik (radhi allahu anhu) narrates from Umar Ibn Khattab (radhi allahu anhu) that when the people suffered from drought he used to ask al-Abbas Ibn Mutallib (radhi allahu anhu) to pray for rain for them. He used to say: “O Allah we used to request our Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) to supplicate to You for rain, and You would bless us with rain. Now, we ask the uncle of our Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)
to supplicate to You, so grant us rain.”[Bukhari]

Also the noble Tabi’e, Sulaym Ibn Aamir al-Khabairee, reported: “The sky withheld any rain, so Muawiyah Ibn Abee Sufyan and the people of Damascus went out to pray for rain. When Muawiyah sat upon the minbar he said: “O Allah! We are today asking the best and most noble amongst us to supplicate to You for us, O Allah, today we put Yazeed Ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashee forward to supplicate to You for us.” Then Yazeed raised his hands and so did the people, and it rained until people could hardly reach their houses.[Tarikh Ibn-e-Asakir]

He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone.

One day when Jesus Christ (PBUH) was teaching in the Temple, “the doctors of Law (Rabbis) and Pharisees brought in a woman caught committing adultery. Making her stand out in the middle they said to him, ‘Master, this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. In the Law Moses (PBUH) has laid down that such women are to be stoned. What do you say about it?’... “Jesus (PBUH) bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. When they continued to press their question he sat up straight and said, ‘That one of you who is faultless shall throw the first stone.’ Then once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. When they heard what he said, one by one they went away, the eldest first; and Jesus (PBUH) was left alone, with the woman still standing there. Jesus (PBUH) again sat up and said to the woman, ‘Where are they? Has no one condemned you? She answered, ‘No, one sir.’ Jesus (PBUH) said, ‘Nor do I condemn you. You may go; do not sin again’ “ (John 8:1-11). REFERENCE: Stoning to death: Zia’s legacy By Qazi Faez Isa June 6, 2002 Thursday Rabi-ul-Awwal 24,1423  http://archives.dawn.com/2002/06/06/op.htm#1

Mr. Masood Sharif Khan Khattak Joins PTI:) "I hereby formally announce to join the PTI to serve the masses under its flag and leadership of Imran Khan,” he said this while addressing a news conference here. PTI Chairman Imran Khan was also present on the occasion. - Mr. Khattak had written in 2008 in The News International - Judge Asif from today Tuesday, September 09, 2008 - Having known Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto since 1987 I am proud of the fact that this exceptionally outstanding leader had chosen me to be the Director General, Intelligence Bureau (DG IB) in her government. I thus worked under her direct command. The unbearably tragic assassination of a leader as brilliant, brave and incomparable as her brought an untimely end to a very vibrant and purposeful life devoted to an unending effort to bring about true democracy in Pakistan. One could write unendingly on Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's personal courage, political acumen and her love for the people of Pakistan. She knew she was being hunted by ruthless assassins. Yet, this great courageous leader held rallies all over the country. The assassins finally caught up with her in Rawalpindi. Her biggest tribute is that she lived with the masses, commanded their love and respect and died amongst them, bravely, with a smile on her face and hand waving at the cheering crowds. Seventeen days before Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's coldblooded assassination I had expressed some differences on political matters openly. Little did I then know that I will never see her again. It is this aspect that weighs heavy on me and makes me regret what I had done. The grim situation arising out of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's assassination which saw Pakistan paralysed was handled by Asif Ali Zardari with dexterity and courage. The PPP was saved from likely fractures and was led through that turbulent period and the elections in such a manner that it emerged as the major party in the National and Sindh Assemblies. Zardari's handling of the post-election scenario brought about a grand coalition with the PML-N and others at the centre and he even managed to bring the MQM back into mainstream politics. These were no ordinary achievements. Why the coalition broke after Musharraf's resignation is too well known. Heartburning could have been buried after Asif Zardari apologised to Nawaz Sharif on TV and requested him to return to the coalition. Knowing each other from the sixties, I and Asif Ali Zardari were also imprisoned together in Karachi Central Jail for three long years. Prison days leave an indelible imprint. As director-general of the IB, I was arrested on the night between Nov. 5 and 6, 1996, in Lahore. Asif Ali Zardari was then at the Governor's House in Lahore. He had my secret telephone number which had not been disconnected. He called me but got through to my wife who told him that I had been arrested an hour ago. After a short sojourn at Kot Lakhpat Jail I was shifted to Karachi Central Jail where I and Asif Ali Zardari then spent the next three years together. In late 1996, Asif and I were also locked up in the cold cells of a police station. We were subjected to days of brutal torture and interrogation. Who would have then known that this man lying on the cold floor of the police station would one day become president of Pakistan? Bravo Asif. Experiences like jail bring forth the real man in anyone. I admired the man I saw in Asif while in jail with him. He was a man full of courage and fight, and was never cowed by the many cases that were being instituted against him. With each new case he would be taken away for investigation (actually torture). He was stronger than the state that was bullying him, not knowing that he would one day head it as president. He was subjected to months of solitary confinement after which, on a court order, I was allowed to visit him in his cell and, thereafter, we used to spend the day together. After sunset I would return to be locked up in my own dreadful cell. I can never forget Asif's concern for me all the time we were in jail. Asif helped many prisoners get a lawyer and helped numerous others in different ways. He was always a common man with the common prisoners and this ability to empathise with the downtrodden and to relate to them should now stand him in good stead. It is during these days that I gauged the extraordinary political acumen, courage, insight, understanding and fortitude that this much vilified man possessed. Today, Asif Ali Zardari will be taking oath as Pakistan's indisputable constitutional president. I plead to all his detractors to bury the bogey of all the negative propaganda of the past two decades and judge him from now. The democratically-elected structure is now in position and should gear up to solve the country's massive problems. These are challenging times. Only internal political stability and non-partisan national unity on issues affecting Pakistan's security and integrity will be able to deliver solutions. It is now incumbent upon all political parties to strengthen the hands of the new president and I am confident that Pakistanis may well be in for a pleasant surprise. As a patriotic Pakistani and someone who has remained in the corridors of power, in a responsible position, I shall make a humble request to all political forces, in particular to Mian Nawaz Sharif and his PML-N, to rise above and give Asif Zardari a huge helping hand. To Mr Sharif, my humble request will also be that, notwithstanding the genuine grievances he may have, he give the coalition one more chance. MULTAN: Former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday resigned from Pakistan People's Party (PPP) as well as National Assembly memberships, Geo News reported. " My association with PPP goes back a long time and today it is coming to end," Qureshi said while addressing a press conference here. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said he would make more significant announcements about future course of action on November 27. He said PPP was no longer a party of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto; 'it is now Zardari league'. He said he did not want to be a part of Zardari league and announced to resign from the party membership. "Zardari buried the politics of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto along with her," Qureshi regretted, adding Zardari has deviated from Benazir's vision. He also announced to resign from MNA seat. Expressing concern over PPP alliance with PML-Q, former minister said it is against Charter of Democracy (CoD). Regarding Mansoor Ijaz's allegations against President Zardari, he said if there was no substance in these allegations then President Zardari should have a legal notice taken against it. The Supreme Court should also take notice of the President's letter written to the US officials, he said. He claimed he had accepted the position of Foreign Minister on the insistence of President Zardari, or rather 'I was the only one who was not interested to take any such position'. The former minister called upon the opposition to resign for paving the way for fresh polls and then go to the people for their mandate. ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has detached himself from the little known Balusa Group, a Track II initiative involving well known Pakistanis and Indians, funded by an American, Shirin Taherkheli. A spokesman at the Foreign Office when asked said that since Qureshi had taken charge as the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, he no longer remained connected to the Balusa Group. Another prominent Pakistani, Major General (retd) Mahmud Ali Durrani, who will take charge as the National Security Adviser, has also been part of Balusa, but it is not known whether he would still be part of this initiative after he took over as ambassador to the United States and now after his new charge in Islamabad. Some of the others are Syed Babar Ali, General Farrakh Khan, Shaharyar Khan and Toufiq Siddiqi. On the Indian side, some of the members are General Satish Nambiar, Kuldip Nayar, Raja Mohan, Bharat Bhushan and Salman Haidar. A former RAW official is also part of this group. Toufiq Siddiqi is an environmentalist and energy expert based in Hawaii and Shirin Tahirkheli, his sister, with support from the United Nations Development Programme and the Rockefeller Foundation, brought together a group of Indian and Pakistani generals, politicians, bureaucrats and others to discuss ways to bring "sense and direction" to the India-Pakistan relationship. This loose gathering that came to be known as the Balusa Group, is named after two adjacent villages in the Pakistani Punjab. In a July-August 2005 interview with the Nepalese magazine Himal, Durrani was asked how he got involved in lobbying for transnational natural gas pipelines in the Central and South Asian region. He replied, "Shirin Tahirkheli (now in-charge at the State Department for the UN reform effort) is really the 'mother hen' of all this. I was still in service when I told her of wanting to retire and devote my life to promoting India-Pakistan peace. Within two years, she and her brother Toufiq (Siddiqi) had organised a group of Pakistanis and Indians to discuss energy cooperation. I attended the first meeting with the backing of the Pakistan military. There was a feeling that we needed peace. There was even an ex-RAW chief in our group." However, DG Institute of Strategic Studies, Dr Shirin Mazari, is skeptical about the Balusa group and says, "The Americans have increased their intrusive activities on all fronts. We have had rising Predator and missile attacks from across the international Pakistan-Afghanistan border even as US-linked/supported personnel continue to occupy positions in the corridors of power. The Balusa Group members funded through an American, Shirin Taherkheli, are a key US investment in Pakistan's power echelons that continue to pay dividends for the US, and this is only one of the many influence-generating channels." Dr Ayesha Siddiqua, an independent strategic and political analyst, who seldom agrees with Mazari, recently noted that "The PPP selected Washington's dream team to run foreign relations and national security. One is not sure that appointing Durrani as the National Security Adviser will do the job. The appointment (of Durrani) is in consideration of the general's close ties with the US Pentagon. Not to mention the fact that Durrani owes his intellectual growth to Shirin Tahirkheli, a Bush administration adviser and former senior official of the UN National Security Council". ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former foreign minister called on the country’s president and prime minister to resign on Saturday, following the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden, one of the highest-profile calls so far for senior officials to be held accountable. Some Pakistanis have focused their anger on the country’s powerful army and intelligence chiefs. But former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani are the ones who should be held responsible. “This is a great violation of our sovereignty, but this is for the president and prime minister to resign and no one else,” said Qureshi in press briefing. Qureshi is now a lawmaker for the ruling Pakistan People’s Party.

He has said he was pushed out of his position as foreign minister in February after he clashed with party officials over the case of Raymond Allen Davis, a CIA contractor who shot and killed two Pakistanis in the central city of Lahore, apparently in self-defense. Qureshi insisted Davis did not enjoy blanket diplomatic immunity, but he was ultimately released after the families of the victims were compensated. SUBJECT: POTENTIAL PAKISTANI PRIME MINISTER SHAH MEHMOOD
QURESHI

REF: A. ISLAMABAD 691 B. LAHORE 698

Classified By: Anne W. Patterson, Reasons 1.4 (b), (d)

1. (C) Summary: This is one of several profiles on political leaders who will play a large role in Pakistan’s new government. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is in the process of coalition negotiations on forming a government but still faces a leadership struggle within its own ranks. With his separate power base in the party, Amin Faheem remains the front-runner for the job as Prime Minister, but PPP Co-Chair Asif Zardari sees Faheem as personally weak and politically positioned to rival Zardari. Shah Mehmood Qureshi is an experienced politician but remains controversial within the PPP in Punjab. Although polished and pro-western, Qureshi is a relative newcomer to the PPP, as he began his political career with Nawaz Sharif but fell out with him. PPP Co-Chair Asif Zardari, however, considers Qureshi a viable candidate for Prime Minister. End summary.

2. (C) Qureshi, the PPP’s Punjab President, is a smooth and sophisticated interlocutor, and he appears sincere in professing that his and PPP’s interests are congruent with those of the United States. He believes the PPP has more in common ideologically with Musharraf than with Nawaz. He is ambitious and has been self-promoting his candidacy for Prime Minister with foreign diplomats.

3. (C) Benazir Bhutto in early 2007 appointed Qureshi–a relatively junior member of the party’s leadership–president of the PPP in Punjab Province. Party insiders speculated that Qureshi’s appointment was intended to diminish the rising popularity and influence of Yousef Raza Gillani, the PPP Vice President and an alternate candidate for Prime Minister. Qureshi and Gillani are political and spiritual rivals from Multan; Qureshi’s elevation was a direct snub to Gillani and may have exacerbated splits within the provincial party. Qureshi was optimistic about his appointment as PPP Punjab President, and told post that he believed his appointment was well-received by local party leaders (REF B).

4. (C) However, some senior PPP Punjabi leaders, including Gillani, consider Qureshi an outsider and have refused to accept his leadership. Qureshi faced further isolation because he is unfamiliar with the PPP’s power structure in Punjab. As a hereditary spiritual leader, he demands separate seating arrangements at party functions, a trait that has antagonized grassroots supporters. Critics also accuse Qureshi of accepting money in exchange for granting party tickets for the February 18 parliamentary elections, although Qureshi supporters argue he is untainted by scandal or corruption.

5. (C) Zardari told NSA Tariq Aziz he was considering Qureshi as a candidate for Prime Minister. Aziz was unenthusiastic and told Zardari he thought Qureshi would not work well with other parties, was very ambitious, and might threaten Zardari’s authority. Qureshi views himself as capable and independent front-man who can advance the party’s objectives. “”If I am Prime Minister,”" Qureshi told us that “”I am not going to be Zardari’s ‘yes-man.’ I am loyal to the party and to Zardari, but I am my own man.”" Qureshi explained that if he was made Prime Minister he expected to be able to choose his own Ministers and would not passively accept directives from a behind-the-scenes Zardari.

Career and Personal History
————————–

6. (C) Qureshi originally joined Nawaz Sharif in 1985, and won seats in the Punjab Provincial Assembly in 1985, 1988, and 1990. He was Punjab’s Finance Minister (1990-1993) under Nawaz’s administration. Nawaz refused to give Qureshi a National Assembly ticket in 1993 because they differed over how to administer the province; Qureshi then left Nawaz to join the PPP. In exchange for switching sides, Qureshi won a National Assembly seat (1993) and became Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs. He lost his seat in 1997 after Nawaz swept the elections.

7. (C) Qureshi was District Nazim (mayor) of Multan

ISLAMABAD 00000872 002 OF 002

(2000-2002); party critics say he ran in the local (non-party) election without Benazir’s blessing but with Musharraf’s tacit support. Qureshi was a capable administrator and oversaw a number of development projects in the Multan district. He used his influence as a nazim to win reelection to the National Assembly on a PPP ticket (2002-2007). During this time he developed a reputation as a forceful orator and championed strengthening and reforming parliament. Qureshi’s critics, however, accuse him of failing to deliver substantial development to his Multan constituency. He retained his seat in the 2008 elections.

8. (C) Qureshi was born in Multan on June 22, 1956. He hails from a religious and politically active family and is the hereditary caretaker of two of the city’s main Sufi shrines, which provides him with substantial income. Qureshi also claims the Sufi spiritual titles of Makdhoom and Pir. His attempt to assert spiritual authority in Multan has been controversial within the city’s Sufi community, as many other Sufi leaders–including Gillani–reject his claims of spiritual authority. Their dispute probably is what led Qureshi initially to join Sharif’s party in 1985, as Gillani was already associated with the PPP. Qureshi is married with one son and two daughters. He holds a B.A. from University of the Punjab and a Masters degree from Cambridge University. Qureshi is fluent in Urdu, English, Punjabi, and Seraiki.

9. (C) Comment: We have multiple and repeated indications that Zardari does not want Faheem to be Prime Minister. Zardari considers Faheem to be weak and lazy, but the real problem we suspect is that Faheem has his own significant power base in Sindh and would not be willing to vacate the PM job if/when Zardari wants to take it over himself. Beyond Faheem, however, Zardari does not have many good choices within the party. Choosing a Punjabi like Qureshi or Gillani (see septel for his profile) could alienate the PPP’s Sindh base but could help the PPP expand its reach into the vote-rich Punjab heartland.

Dear Mr. Ansar Abbasi, Kindly interpret these pictures in the light of Quran and Sunnah. Imran Khan's Revolution via Data Ganj Bakhsh. http://chagataikhan.blogspot.com/2011/11/imran-khans-revolution-via-data-ganj.html - I tried my best to justify the above through Quran and Sunnah but couldn't!

How Conveniently Mr. Haroon ur Rasheed shifted the ownership of Lahore to Alleged Data Ganj Bakhsh aka Ali Hajweri and how shamelessly Dr Safdar Mehmood divided Islam in Zaahir & Baatin (Outward & Inward). Lets have a look at this Zaahir Baatin through Islamic Lense.

A glimpse at the ‘Ubaydi (Fatimid) state – its origins and beliefs

The ‘Ubaydi state – which is what they call the Fatimid state by way of deception– was founded in Tunis in 297 AH, and moved to Egypt in 362 AH, where it was firmly established, and its power spread to a large part of the Muslim world, such as Syria and the Arabian Peninsula.

Its rule began with al-Mu’izz li Deen-Allaah Mu’aadh ibn al-Mansoor al-‘Ubaydi and ended with al-‘Aadid ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Yoosuf in 567 AH.

The Sunni imams, scholars and historians spoke of the founding of this state and explained that their claims to be descended from Faatimah (may Allaah be pleased with her) were false, and they described how it spread kufr and heresy, persecuted Ahl al-Sunnah, and supported the kuffaar and even cooperated with them against the Muslims. Among these imams and historians were: Abu Shaamah, Ibn Taghri Bardi, Ibn Taymiyah, Ibn Katheer, al-Dhahabi and many others.

Imam al-Dhahabi said of ‘Ubayd-Allaah al-Mahdi, who was the first ruler of that state:

There are several opinions concerning the lineage of al-Mahdi, which may be summed up by noting that he was neither Haashimi nor Faatimi [i.e., he was not descended from Banu Haashim or from Faatimah]. End quote.

Siyar A’laam al-Nubala’ (15/151).

And he said:

The genealogists and scholars denied his claims concerning his lineage. End quote.

Tareekh al-Islam, events of 321-330 AH, p. 23

It was narrated that Abu Shaamah – who wrote a book about this state entitled Kashf ma kaana ‘alayhi Banu ‘Ubayd min al-Kufr wa’l-Kadhb wa’l-Makr wa’l-Kayd – said:

They claimed to be descendents of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), although they are descended from a Magian or Jew, until they became known as such, and their state was called al-dawlah al-‘alawiyyah (‘Alawi state – i.e., descendents of ‘Ali) or al-dawlah al-faatimiyyah (Fatimid state). But in fact it is the esoteric, heretic “Jewish state” or “Magian state”. End quote.

See: Siyar A’laam al-Nubala’ (15/213) and al-Rawdatayn fi Akhbaar al-Dawlatayn ((1/216).

Among the actions and beliefs of the rulers of that state: they claimed to have knowledge of the unseen, and they made claims of Prophethood and divinity, and they demanded that their subjects and followers prostrate to them, and they reviled the Sahaabah. There follows proof of the above and more:

1 –Claims of Prophethood and divinity:

al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated that the fuqaha’ and devoted worshippers supported the Khawaarij in their war against the ‘Ubaydis because of the kufr and heresy of the latter. When Abu Yazeed Makhlad ibn Keedaad al-Khaariji wanted to fight Banu ‘Ubayd, al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

The fuqaha’ and devoted worshippers hastened to make full preparations with drums and banners. Ahmad ibn Abi’l-Waleed addressed them on Friday at Jumu’ah prayers, and he exhorted them and said: Strive against the one who disbelieves in Allaah and claims that he is a lord instead of Allaah. … And he said: O Allaah, this kaafir Qarmati who is known as Ibn ‘Ubayd-Allaah and claims to be divine is denying Your blessings, and He disbelieves in Your Lordship, slanders Your Messengers, disbelieves in Muhammad Your Prophet, and sheds blood. Curse him greatly and humiliate him deeply and send Your curse upon him morning and evening. Then he came down and led them in Jumu’ah prayer.

Siyar A’laam al-Nubala’ (15/155).

Among those who claimed divinity was the ‘Ubaydi ruler of whom al-Dhahabi said: The heretic Ismaili who claims to be divine.

Al-Siyar (15/173).

He also said concerning him:

It was said that he wanted to claim to be divine and he started to do so, but the prominent figures of his state spoke to him and warned that all the people would rebel against him. End quote.

Al-Siyar (15/176).

Among those who incited the ruler to make these claims was Hamzah ibn ‘Ali al-Zawzani who was one of those who claimed that the ruler was divine, and who founded the Druze sect in Syria.

Al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) also said:

The heretic Durzi was killed because of his claims that the ruler was divine, and some of the ignorant used to say when they saw the ruler: “O One, O One, O giver of life, O giver of death.”

Al-Siyar (15/180, 181).

Al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

I read in a one-volume book of history which describes what happened each year and was written by some good people around the year 630 and was given to the ruler of Egypt, al-Malik al-Saalih, in 667:

This action (i.e., putting an end to the ‘Ubaydi state) was one of the noblest of the deeds of Salaah al-Deen al-Ayyoobi. What a good thing he did, for these people were baatinis and heretics who called for belief in transmigration of souls and the belief that the divine was physically incarnated in them.

Al-Dhahabi said: al-Haakim said to his propagandist: How many do you have listed (as followers)? He said: Sixteen thousand who believe that you are god.

Their poet said:

“Rule, for you are the one, the compeller; it is what you wish and not what the divine decree wills”

May Allaah curse both the praiser and the praised, for this is no less abhorrent than when Pharaoh said, “I am your lord, most high” [al-Naaz’iaat 79:24].

One of their poets said concerning al-Mahdi in Raqqaadah:

“Adam and Nooh are there, and anything other than Allaah is nothing.

The Messiah is there in Raqqaadah, Allaah in His glory is there.”

He said:

This man is worse in his kufr than the Christians, because the Christians believe that the divine was incarnated physically in ‘Eesa only, but these people believe that He was incarnated in the bodies of Adam, Nooh, the Prophets and all the imams.

This is their creed, may Allaah curse them.

Tareekh al-Islam, events of 561-570 AH, p. 274-281.

When ‘Ubayd-Allaah claimed to be a prophet, he brought two of the faqeehs of Qayrawaan to appear before him as he was sitting on his throne, and he ordered one of his servants to say to the two Shaykhs: “Do you bear witness that this man is the messenger of Allaah?” They said: “By Allaah, if he came to us with the sun on his right and the moon on his left, both of them saying that he was a messenger of Allaah, we would not believe that.” So he ordered that they be slaughtered.

Al-Siyar (14/217).

2 – Claim to have knowledge of the unseen

Ibn Khallikaan (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

They claimed to have knowledge of the unseen, and there are well known reports concerning that.

Wafiyaat al-A’yaan (5/373, 374)

3 – People prostrated for them

They ordered the people to prostrate for them. al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

In 396 AH, khutbahs were given in the two holy sanctuaries under the authority of the ruler of Egypt al-Haakim, and the people were ordered to stand up and prostrate when he was mentioned. Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji’oon (Verily to Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return).

Duwal al-Islam (1/350).

When al-Haakim was mentioned they would stand up and prostrate for him. Al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

They stood up and prostrated in the market place, and in their meeting places. Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji’oon (Verily to Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return). These ‘Ubaydis were an evil that befell Islam and the Muslims.

Al-Tareekh, events of 381-400 AH, p. 234.

4 – They killed the scholars who did not follow their beliefs

Abu’l-Hasan al-Qaabisi, the author of al-Mulakhkhas, said: The number of those killed by ‘Ubayd-Allaah and his descendents in his torture chamber was four thousand scholars and worshippers, to stop them saying “Radiya Allaah ‘anhum (may Allaah be pleased with them)” about the Sahaabah.

Al-Siyar (15/145).

5 – The Qaraamitah participated in their crimes

al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

During the reign of al-Mahdi the Qaraamitah committed crimes in Bahrain. They attacked the pilgrims, killing and taking prisoners, and they violated the sanctuary of Allaah in Makkah and took away the Black Stone. ‘Ubayd-Allaah corresponded with them and incited them, may Allaah destroy him.

Al-Siyar (15/147).

6 – Reviling the Sahaabah

During the reign of al-‘Azeez, the Sahaabah were reviled openly.

Al-Siyar (15/170).

He ordered that words reviling the Sahaabah be written on the doors of the mosques and in the streets, and he ordered his state workers to revile them in 395 AH.

Tareekh al-Islam, events of 395 AH, p. 283.

And he said:

Reviling of the Sahaabah was widespread during his reign (i.e., al-Mustansir) and the Sunnah was unknown and hidden.

Al-Siyar (15/196).

In brief, they were baatinis who changed the religion of Islam; they were outwardly Raafidis but inwardly they were heretics.

Al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

They changed the religion of Islam. They were outwardly Raafidis, but inwardly they were Ismailis.

Al-Siyar (15/141).

Al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

As for the baatini ‘Ubaydis, they are enemies of Allaah and His Messenger.

Al-Siyar (15/373).

He also (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

How these ‘Ubaydis tampered with and changed the religion of Islam is indescribable.

Al-Siyar (16/149).

Al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Abu Yoosuf al-Ra’eeni said: The scholars in Qayrawaan are unanimously agreed that Banu ‘Ubayd are apostates and heretics.

Tarteeb al-Madaarik (4/720); see also al-Siyar (15/151).

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Radd ‘ala al-Bakri:

The ‘Ubaydis, who are inwardly heretics, follow the beliefs of the philosophers and Magians and have mixed them with Raafidi views. The best they show of commitment to Islam is the Raafidi way, but inwardly they are heretics, worse than the Jews and Christians.

Hence the scholars said concerning them that they are outwardly Raafidis, but inwardly their belief is pure kufr. They are among the people who venerate shrines the most, and believe in astrology, and other religious practices of the mushrikeen. They are the least likely of people to venerate the mosques which Allaah has ordered to be raised (to be cleaned, and to be honoured), in them His Name is remembered (cf. al-Noor 24:36).Their legacy in Cairo proves that. End quote.

And he said (may Allaah have mercy on him) in al-Radd ‘ala al-Mantiqiyyeen:

The ‘Ubaydis were outwardly Muslim and said that they were Shi’ah, so they appeared to be Raafidis but inwardly they were heretics as Abu Haamid al-Ghazaali said in al-Mustazhari: Outwardly they are Raafidis but inwardly their belief is pure kufr. What Abu Haamid said about them is that on which there is consensus among Muslim scholars. End quote.

He said (may Allaah have mercy on him) in Minhaaj al-Sunnah:

They (the rulers of the ‘Ubaydi state) are well known for their heresy, opposition to Allaah and His Messenger, apostasy and hypocrisy. End quote.

Ibn Katheer said in al-Bidaayah wa’l-Nihaayah (11/386):

When the khateeb mentioned al-Haakim the people would all stand up out of respect. They also did that in Egypt, and in addition to that they would prostrate for him. They would prostrate when he was mentioned. So those who were praying would prostrate and those who were in the marketplace would prostrate when they prostrated. May Allaah curse him. End quote.

Such was the ‘Ubaydi state, and these are some of their evil deeds. Thus it is clear that the one who says that the ‘Ubaydi state was an Islamic state and ignores the blessed states and times in which Islam ruled, and focuses instead on the ‘Ubaydi state as the solution for our own times, is wrong. This is a bad and abhorrent statement.

The one who says that wants to repeat the spread of heresy and kufr, the reviling of the Sahaabah and the killing of the scholars!

There is no solution for the Muslims except to return to the teachings of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his noble Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them).

We ask Allaah to bring the Muslims back soundly to their religion.
